Polishing Aluminum

A friend has aluminum covers on his motorcycle and is curious as to what product is recommended for polishing and protecting the aluminum.

Please advise.

Having tried to polish out a set of previously painted wheels on my own, the answer is 'it depends'. It depends on how rough the aluminum is. The Flitz or Mothers are good if the metal is fairly smooth and in good condition. If it's rough and needs more TLC, I found 3M's Aluminum Restorer to be good. If it's really rough, hit it with some sandpaper first. Just as a guide, to get my wheels from rough to chrome look, I started with 80g paper, then 120, 240, 800 and finally 1200. Then I went to the polishes. First the 3M, then Nevr-dull, then the Mothers Billet and finally Flitz. (It took me a year to do 2 wheels). FYI-NEVER try to polish out wheels that have been painted on your own. :furious:
