Polisher Handles

I currently have a side handle on my Dewalt rotary, and see that the new Dewalts come with a Bail handle. What do you guys prefer, a side handle or a Bail Handle and why? I have never used a Bail handle, so I am curious to see if it is a wise purchase.

Personal preference.

Some guys prefer side handles, some prefer bails, some remove the handle completely.

My preference for the Dewalt is the (long discontinued) Meguiar's G500 adjustable handle.

Even though Meguiar's doesn't sell them any more, some dealers may still have a few buried somewhere. I got a couple from Kevin Brown (www.buffdaddy.com) a while back. Shoot him a message, I think he still has some.

The G-500 fits buffers that are made for 1/2"-13NC threaded handles, like the Dewalt and Dynabrade.

I ordered a bail handle to give it a try. Do you guys think the machine is more balanced with the bail handle, or isn't there much of a difference?

I don't like bails because they move your hand that much farther away from the pad. You can tilt it down, but then you might as well remove it and hold the machine's head.

But that's just me. You might love a bail.

I can see your point there. I will have to give some feedback when I get it. It was around $12 for the handle and the two screws, so I figure if I don't like it, it won't be a huge loss.

I remember seeing Meg's Dave Pedre's (FL) rotary equipped with one of these a while back. Nice unit! I wish they still offered them.

straight handle on the left side of the polisher, sometimes remove it as well.

i never could get comfortable with any other type of handle.

find what you are most comfortable with & use it over & over again.

I generally just use mine without a handle at all....

Same here, for both rotaries and PC/GG/etc. Even done it with my Flex 3401, but its housing quickly gets awfully hot.

I got my bail handle yesterday, and had the opportunity to try it out today on a detail. I LOVE this thing! I like it so much more than a side handle. I found that it is easier to control the machine. Although, I am by no means good at rotary polishing without leaving any holograms, but I did notice that since I found it easier to control the machine, the amount of holograms left behind were minimal; and just needed a quick follow up with the PC. Anyway, I am looking forward to using it on my next detail Monday.

lol barry. i have one for you guys. 1 in the stink for a little extra reach across the center of the hood for us short guys. :heh:
