Polished Porsche

Well, I just finished my MBA program and I have no job. So, I was pretty bored. To fill the time, I decided to detail my dad's Cayenne. I think the car is about 2 years old.

I don't have any before pictures, but the car looked pretty well kept. There were very few swirls in the paint as the car has never been through a car wash with brushes. However, once I got started I realized looks can be deceiving. I spent quite a bit of time on several areas of the car. Claying for instance took quite a bit of time as I was constantly remolding the clay as it was picking up so much dirt. I also spent quite a bit of time on the interior as the carpets had some pretty nasty stains in them. I spent twenty minutes cleaning the steering wheel alone. It had quite a bit of dirt and oil embedded in the grains of the leather. It was so bad that the leather actually looked lacquered. I think this steering wheel picks up so much dirt, because it's heated. Anyway . . .

Wash w/ Zymol Clear
Wheels cleaned with Megs Wheel Brightener
Clay
Polish w/ Menzerna FPII and white LC pad
Seal w/ Menzerna FMJ
Polish metal trim w/ Megs NXT Metal Polish
Treat plastic trim w/ PB's Trim Restorer (FYI this stuff is great)
Glass cleaned w/ Invisible Glass

Looks like a job well done.!!

I like FMJ. It was very easy for me to put on. Very slick afterwards. Ease of use and slickness are amoung the top of the heap.

Your interior is very inviting. The leather looks as comfortable as any I have seen.

Where were you going to school? CONGRATULATIONS on your MBA!!!

Yesterday anyplace indoors was very inviting. I think the high temperature was 19 degrees.

I also like FMJ a lot. It's ridiculously easy too use and leaves such a slick surface. I just wish it was a little cheaper.

I just finished my MBA at Suffolk University in Boston. There are so many colleges & universities here in MA it's silly. Eductation is actually the state's #1 "export."

Looks like a good job. Very nice to have a heated steering wheel. Didn't know cars had that. I'm in L.A. I don't really think we need that here. Wish they were cooled though. Anyhow, great job.

Did you work on this indoors?? I am in CT. and it is mighty cold....
I did the washing outside, but everything else was done indoors. The car was too dirty for QEW so I just washed the old fashioned way. It wasn't too bad. I wore latex gloves and used warm wash water.

Looks good, are you goin to dress the tires, or is it a lost cause in that snow and weather? Love those Porsches!

Thats what I was thinking.

Otherwise great work!!!

I actually dressed the tires a little later in the day. I sprayed 303 right on the tire. I didn't want to do it in the driveway though as I find it can stain. Instead, I did it when I took the car to the supermarket. :innocent: I was considering dressing the wheel wells too, but with all the snow etc. I decided against it.

Love the "Jesus" bars on the center console, never seen anything like that before. Great detail, good luck with the job hunt. I picked up my MBA and it came in handy when I switched from mechanical engineering to civil engineering as I am doing little engineering and more people and projec tmanagement.
