Polished plastic, what happened ?

Tried polishing my 3rd brake light yesterday. Started with a 1200 sanding block then switched to 2000 before moving to the PC and polishes. The scratched area came out great but another problem appeared. It kind of looks like big water spots all over the place... Anyway, here's a picture. What do you think happened here ???

Maybe the other areas had the coating and you got sanded it all off. The "water spot" area has the coating worn down so thin that it looks like that . :shrugs
 
Next time I'd just use mothers plastic polish or meguiars plastx and not sandpaper. Maybe what you should do now is sand off the rest of the coating so it is even, then use the products I mentioned to finish it and leave a protetive polymer coating. At least it won't look like a water spot.

Actually you should try to aply those product as it is now (since you didnt mention anything about wax or coating after the polish). If it still look like it is, then try to sand off all the surface. I guess you dont have anything to loose by doing this.
 
Thanks for the replies everyone. I do have PlastX but the scratches were way too deep to remove them without sanding. And I did use AIO on a polishing pad to complete the process. Wonder if SG could make a difference ?
 
Well, well, I'm happy to report bcwang and Sullybob were right. Kept sanding and the light came out GREAT ! Probably better than new...



That damn PC offers lots of possibilities, it's almost addictive LOL
