Yes they can bash things with those bars. But more often, they push disabled cars out of the way with them.

And I looked at the photos again, in the last one you can see damage to the passenger side rear quarter panel, which is where you would expect damage from a PIT looking at the damage on the cruiser...but definitely could just be a (almost) head-on and the car spun and hit the cruiser there afterwards...if it was a PIT, as someone else noted, the officer driving the cruiser was pretty ..ah..."enthusiastic" about the contact...

It wasn't a pit. Just a ran red light.
If it were a PIT to stop someone, do you actually think they would let the guy sit there after a chase?

The rear quarter panel was straight....It is the reflection of the wrecked cruiser........see 1st and 2nd pic.

Of course not, I just wasn't certain that the person sitting there was the driver.

Ok, makes more sense - I looked at those and couldn't see any damage, then saw what I thought was damage in the fourth pic - but it looked odd. Didn't catch it was the reflection.

Much better - I'd be worried if that was the outcome of a pit

Yea, you really have to look at it. When you said something about damage on the quarter, I had to scroll back up and look it over again, cause I knew I seen no damage there when I took pics....

as far as those stupid "push Bars" on the front they cause more damage with than with out, The one you see here are NOT made for Pushing and is NOT a PUSH Bar they are called "Brush Bars" We have the same stile on our cruiser here and there have a thin brackets just above the front bumper that help stop the bars from vibrating, if the were aloud to vibrate they crack at the frame mounting point and I have seen frames crack where the "BRUSH Bars connect the Main frame member. If you were to hit a 90-100lbs deer at 30mph as officers do around here those brackets go right through the AC condenser. after seeing the damage first hand they have had me remove all of them from the police fleet except for the Expeditions.

The second use they have is mandated by federal law, The siren decibels (92dbls+) are to high in the front seat if the siren were in the bar lights like they were years ago, if memory serves me correctly the siren puts out 120+ dbls so now they have to mount the sirens in the grill area, away from the drivers window. If you have by chance seen how tight the front of the Crown Vic's are you see why the Brush Bar was added, if you look close enough you can see 2#100watt speakers mounted just in side of the brush bar.....There ya go, now you know.

I disagree with that. When push bars are used properly there is no damage done to the cruiser and only minimum to the vehicle being pursued. That is the purpose of the bars. I've seen them used hundreds of times without any damage being caused.

If you have by chance seen how tight the front of the Crown Vic's are you see why the Brush Bar was added, if you look close enough you can see 2#100watt speakers mounted just in side of the brush bar.....There ya go, now you know.

If you think the engine copartment is tight, try doing an interior detail on a cruiser with a cage, radar, computer, flashlights, radios, etc, etc, etc. It was pretty rough working around all of that.
