Pledge and Dove Soap

What would you say to somebody who uses Dove soap to clean their leather seats, and Pledge to treat their vinyl (dash,door panels, and leather?) I got into it on another forum with a member who has some "status" as a detailing pro. He swears by this routine (he's near 60.) Let me know your thoughts.
 
Dove Soap? I'll buy it. Dove actually has far fewer cleaning properties then most traditional body soaps. And this comes from kids pediatricians, years ago. If its good enough for babies, its got my vote for nearly everything else.

As for the Pledge, that was yesterdays QD.
 
It's easy to fall into the high end car care product craze, but there's a lot of household products that work great in the car.

I've never used dove to clean leather, but it is a mild soap (wonder how it compares to saddle soap?).

As for pledge, I don't think it was yesterdays QD, but it sure was yesterdays spray on, wipe off wax, especially for show.

I wasn't going to say it but yep....I used Pledge as a QD for a lot shows. Not much on durability and talk about attracting dust but Pledge as a QD has won a lot of high end car show. Most of the users here are too young to remember those days – you know when baby diapers was the in thing and Windex and chrome was cool and don’t forget brake fluid on the inter fender wells to make them black and shinny.:grinno:

I've used dove on to clean leather seats,easy to work up a lather in your hands work into seats then remove with a damp towel,what IS good about this method is-its cheap, gives good results,and your not introducuing to much water to the leather,of course I follow up with a good leather coditioner,zanio Z10 is my current fav.



Never used pledge on vynil,did use it on door seals before I found Gummie Fledge.

I liked mop & glow better then the brake fluid, and it worked on the tires too!:har:

Mostly ... I leave the Pledge and brake fluid alone but Windex on chrome - once in while for old time sake and cleans up my chrome Craigers with center spinners. Even todays shows you will see the old timers using Windex to cleanup the chrome at the car shows. It is interesting looking in the detail buckets at shows like world of wheels and just see what in them and what is being used on $30,000.00 plus paint jobs!!!

You could always tell the mop and glow guys since after a bunch of layers the tires would crack .. the brake fluid guys tires would have a yellow tint to them. Old bias tires didn't last long enough to worry about it.:)
 
The Pledge worked yesterday, and it still works today. I'll still use it from time to time on the dash of my 1985 Olds. Leaves a pleasant smell, too.
