Please Tell Me I Didn't!!!!!!!!!!

Did you not read the part where the body shop owner said that it appeared the hood had been repainted and had some dirt under the clear? It's more common than many people think. Just because it's a new car doesn't mean all panels are factory paint as accidents happen where panels and even whole csars need to be repainted before they go on the lot for sale. A lot can happen to a car by the time it leaves the factory and shows up at the dealership.

Sure I read that but based on the original post it sounds like this "defect" wasn't noticeable prior to his polishing the paint. So was it there or not? Hard to say but the mere fact that he felt like he needed to "FIB" would imply to me that it wasn't.

To be honest, I'm happy for the guy. I'd hate to have a spot like that on my vehicle too so it's nice to see that he's getting taken care of. I'm just questioning the conditions under which it happened.

The quarter size spot isn't even an issue if in fact the hood had been repainted and had other defects in it that weren't caused by the owner but instead were there from the repaint. Maybe he caused the defect because his paint wasn't factory baked paint. The fact is he spent a fortune on the car and it sounds like the hood wasn't up to snuff for the price of the car.

I guess we will NEVER know if the hood had been repainted prior to me taking delivery? Either way from what I've gathered is that YOU CAN DAMAGE PAINT with a PC...regardless if its factory painted or not.

That's true to some extent, but I was just basing it from the opinion of a professional painter and the fact the dealership approved the hood to be repainted. Non factory paint would more likely to be susceptible to damage by polsihing also. Bottom line is we need to be careful.
