Please help with my new project!!! (1995 Volvo)

I am about to take on a new project, a 1995 Black Volvo that has always been outdoors, rarely waxed, and only washed at a drive through car wash!!! The car has some bad scratch marks and is heavily swirled all over. I am really excited about the challenge. I am not new to detaling and have kept all my cars in concours type condition but never have I dealt with a car in such poor condition. I ordered a PC with a 6 inch backing plate and counter weight just a few minutes ago. I will need to order extra pads. What do you think I should pick up? Also I will need to start from scratch in terms of supplies. I do have 3M SMR for dark cars, mothers and Zaino clay, Blackfire, and a full line of Zaino, and Blitz. I realize I am going to need much stronger stuff in terms of polish because the SMR will not be enough, there are some pretty harsh swirls!!! I am open to any and all recomendations???:confused: Thanks
 
I just took on a similar project (1997 Mazda Miata with badly neglected dark blue paint). Meguiar's #9 with a CMA white pad wasn't quite enough for the job. Meguiar's Medallion Cleaner with CMA's yellow PC pad worked wonders.

What model Volvo is the '95 -- just out of curiosity?



Get the pad kit from CMA -- it's really a good price when you add up the pads individually. Also, some 3M Perfect-It II and/or 3M Finesse It-II to start your project with. (After washing & claying, off course!

Cool! We have a '96 850 Wagon that's Nautica Blue -- I love the Volvo's!! :D



Be sure to post some before/after pics when you get time -- it's always great to view these!!
 
Keep us updated as I just started a black GTP with moderate swirls. But one swirl is a swirl too many so I want them gone. Thanks and good luck,

good luck on your project. we just sold our 96' 850glt wagon a month or so ago. volvo has great paint to work with, you should be able to get it looking really nice. i'd probably grab the perfect it for a really tough job if the smr didn't make a difference. i'd us the yellow pad as well. i detailed a badly neglected vette a few weekends ago (did it for free for the use of a convertible vette for a few days, it was well worth it) and i used the yellow pad and perfect it and it turned out nice. not perfect, but greatly improved.
 
Well I guess all this will have to wait for a while. I got a phone call earlier today and the Volvo got hit from behind, nothing to major but it's going to need some body/paint work. Well at least I finally got around to purchasing a PC. I think I might give it a try with some Blackfire on my mother's silver Audi this weekend.
