Please help w/static

In the process of detailing my car w/just about every product under the sun, I have developed a severe static problem. Having finished putting the final coat of wax on this morning, I drove 2 miles to work, happened to rub against the rear of the car and got brake dust on my pants. Upon further investigation I noticed a great deal of static, (especially on the plastic behind the rear wheels) which is attracting brake dust. What do I do?

I don't think you can do much, static is increased by a dry climate, the more humid less static and the fact that driving with rubber tires don't help !

Haven't seen one for awhile, but I have used a "static strap." It is a leather strap attached to some metal point under the car that will allow it to drag on the ground.

I haven't used one myself, but I know a guy who has a very nice, black '69 El Camino that swears by his static strap. I think his is rubber.

One product that I know of that is designed to have anti-static properties is Plexus. It's great stuff for plexiglass. It's designed specifically for cleaning plastic, however lots of motorcycle folks use it like a QD on plastic, painted bodywork.
