Please Help Me Fix The Halos/swirls

Dear friends, I just purchased a BMW 330cic and the detailer at the dealership made my hood look like crap. It was night and I did not notice until the next day. I have been reading many detailing forums and purchased the Zaino products, but they only fill in he swirls. What can you experts reccomend to take the swirls out. I have purchased a PC, so please reccomend a polish and a foam pad. Menzerna is reccomended for German cars, so I am leaning toward final polish. Any comments are welcome. Here is my link ( I can't seem to get the pics out)

do a search for some threads. In particular, there is one on Menzerna VS. Poorboy's SSRs. To give you a synopsis, SSR's do not dust and can be used in the sun. They also wipe off 10x easier (SSR1). I would suggest SSR2, then SSR1, then go with the "Z". The PC will help greatly!

damn those swirls suck. :eek when i bring my car to the bmw dealership i never let them wash my car, they suck at it.

anyway good luck i hope you get those swirls out! :bigups

they are ugly..may take a few rounfs of SWR...do get down after one round...
Where are you located??

TAKE THAT SH*T BACK!!! Why concern yourself with this issue? Get the dealer to do it right or pay to have it professionally done! (Getting on Soap Box) As a customer you should not accept such poor workmanship. If more people started to take things back to the dealers as opposed to just accepting defects, the dealers will stop putting out such poor work! You paid good money for you vehicle and now you want to spend MORE money on a problem you should not have to deal with! UGH! (Getting off soap box)

As far as pad & product combo, you want to try the least aggressive method first. Esp, since you don't know how much clear the clown at the dealership took off.

If you want to DIY for learning purposes, then I would start with SSR1 and a light cut pad (Green Edge), if that does not do it, SSR1 w/medium cut pad (Yellow Edge), than polish with polishing pad, then seal.

If you have to step up to SSR2 use the yellow pad, then SSR1 with green and polish then seal.

But the best suggestion I have is, TAKE IT BACK!!!

I deffinatly agree! The sad part is that I am sure that we can all picture in our heads that the dealer ship has some guy who THINKS he knows how to use a rotary, and in reality all he is doing is using a wool pad and swinging the rotary back and forth over the car in all kinda of directions and assentially making a mess!!

Ok enough of that!

Kaye117 My recomendation is to do this... go back to the dealership and go straight to your sales representitive. Tell them your problem ect. If they don't do anything then take it to management/owner ect!

If you don't mind putting the work in to your car then hell just ask them for some cash to take the car to "Your detailer" that way you can use the cash to stock up your garage! If he doesn't go for that than insist on taking it to a detailer of your choice and you will give him the bill!

And to finnish up...Its bad to be receiving a brand new car in that condition! however Its not "that bad" I personally did that to my car! I thought I had some idea as to what I was doing..(haha) well when I was done my Beautiful Black Mustang was 1 big hologram!

To make a long story short... I read through everything I could read here on this forum! Below is a list of threads for good starting points!

Porter Cable Tutorials

Detailing according to Jngrbrdman

Those should get you started in the right direction! If your going to tackle this one on your own! The best instructions i hve received from DC are Start with the least abrasive product! And take your time!

I like the previous suggestion of taking it back to the dealership. For that kind of coin I would expect them to make it up to you.

THANKS FOR THE SUGGESTIONS

Hi guys, thanks for the responses. I live in Bakersfield, CA, purchased the car in Newport Beach - 2 hours away. I called and complained to the SA but they didn't want to do anything. I would rather not trust the job to those idiots anyway. So I am here to learn and become a master of my own domain. I will start with a really light non abrasive polish to see if I can get rid of the swirls. Thanks also for the pad reccomendations. I plan on getting some from the CMA folks. I'll let you know what happens.

Nothing wrong with CMA, but Premium Auto Care also carries a good variety of pads. They also happen to sponsor this message board.
Just a thought.

Charles :)

If you bought it at a BMW dealer, especially a high volume one such as the one in Newport Beach, I'd contact a regional sales manager... BMW prides itself on customer satisfaction and loyalty, and I am quite confident that if you were to send the pictures of your vehicle along with some history of what transpired, they (BMW of North America) will take the necessary action to correct the problem.

that looks pretty nasty!
go talk to the region manager, this type stuff should not be handeled by beginners. Anyway you spend $40K for that car so why should you expect any less?

do it right away, the longer you wait the worse.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't think it could be that bad, holy cow its a new swirled BMW. Get them to fix it, because my 8 year old daughter could do a better job then they did.
