Hello all,

First time poster, but been reading for a while. Thanks for all the information you guys share!

I need some help from you pros out there. I just purchased a black 2006 Mercedes-Benz S 430. It was in good shape and had a great price. Unfortunately, the paint seems to have suffered a bit over the three years its been around. I'm going to go at it tomorrow morning to see how I can begin the process of fixing it up. And, as I've learned from you, you must first diagnose the problems with the pain before you can fix them.

So, being new to auto detailing, but with a lot of excitement and a few tools, I'm asking for your help. Please let me know what you think I should do about the following:

The car has some scratches that don't car when I rub them with my fingernail.

The car also has some spots where the light reflecting off of it wobbles. It's evident in some of the highlights in the pictures above and the one below.

Additionally, there are swirls over a fair bit of the car as seen here:

Then, the lug nuts are rusted. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Lastly, there is a small but ugly glob of paint where the previous owner did a bad job at touching up. Any suggestions?

I am not a pro like many of you but I have a few starter tools to use. I have the PC 7424 with the XMT Light Swirl remover kit. I have the Meguiar's clay bar kit, good microfiber towels, sheepskin mit, two buckets with the grit guards, Pinnacle Bodywork Shampoo, Meguiar's Cleaner Wax, Wolfgang Deep Glass Pain Sealant, and Mother's PowerMetal Aluminum buffer.

Any and all advice on what the above issues are and how to fix them is GREATLY appreciated!

Yes, I could take it to one of you but I really enjoy working on the car so want to save the fun to myself unless it is a problem that is way beyond my abilities.

Thanks and all the best,
