platinum vs. Blackfire

I've run them side by side. The only difference is the dust collection is heavier on the BF side and the water reaction on the surface is different. The beads are really tight on Platinum and not so much on Blackfire. There is a longetivity difference too. The UPP will outlast the BF as far as how long it will bead the water. They both look awesome though. :xyxthumbs

bf2 came out in oct 2002 and has much better durability than the bf1. The bf2 lasted about 3 months of the winter in michigan, but probably could have lasted longer if i used aio and prepped a bit better.

IMO BF2 leaves an excessive residue of oils - very visible on my black paint. Platinum is almost oil free - much better on black.

Nick, ya gotta work it baby ! Residual oils are easily removed with a quality MF, and some QD IF desired....BF II is incredible, although i have not used Platinum as of yet, my sample pack has arrived but Im really having difficulty convincing myself to remove the 3 BF II layers i have on my P/U....As for beading ? Check the pic...1 month, 1 wash, and 1 rainstorm...

Im really digging bf2. I had some minor streaking issues at first, but that cleared up first wash and now it looks awesome. Beads are nice and tight and it is holding up well so far.

Yep! Believe me I have worked it! The more of BF2’s oils that you remove, the more it loses its apparent depth. Remove all the oils and you end up with a low reflectivity Zaino! BF2 may be good on light colored paint, but its high mineral oil content nixes it for use on black IMO. PUPP is much better suited for dark paint (again in my opinion). YMMV

Darn Nick, bummer you cant find the happy medium...Not to knock Platinum, I cant wait to use it ! What are you prepping with ? I use BF II exclusively on black and red, and my personal cars, no matter what the color.....

Are you allowing it to set (dry) ? I say set because I prefer to let it "cure" in the natural sun, letting the oils evaporate and penetrate......After about 1/2 hr in the sun, i simply wipe with a MF and wahfreekinlah......instant richness and luster....

Believe me, I really wanted BF2 to work for me! Hi, my name is Nick and I’m a Zaino addict! Just like AA where they substitute caffeine for alcohol, I want to get this Zaino monkey off my back!

My base was excellent condition multi-layered Zaino. My first try was BF-AFPP with no prep. Lots of smudges and smears due to the oils. I though that maybe it wouldn’t bond well to the Zaino so I prepped with BF-GEP and then added the AFPP. A little better but not much. I tried letting it cure overnight before buffing - I tried hitting it with a hair dryer - I tried everything I could think of except the secret incantation that a very old sorceress taught me many years ago (not because I’d promised her to only use it in life threatening situations, but because I couldn’t remember all of it).

No matter what I tried the BF2 left an amazingly good looking finish - - until I touched it with my finger and saw the smudges! I haven’t tried it on my white Suburban (The Miata Masher) yet, but it might be just the thing that the white paint needs!

yeah, i totally agree....on my black bmw, i've applied the BF allfinish paint protection and applied very very this layers and really really worked it and really used the MF to remove it, but it left a haze and streaking that only resolved when i applied a layer of souveran on it.

I am looking for a polymer that I can apply and buff off easily with MF, without having to do the extra step of applying a quickdetailer spray to get rid of the smudges. if platinum is the answer, and has the same positive characteristics as BF, then i'm gonna try platinum.

any negatives of the platinum (longevity, depth, etc) compared to BF?

No problems with anything when compared to Blackfire. They are pretty equal products with different advantages and disadvantages. Overall I would rate them about the same but their ratings in specific areas would be different. They are both a high 6 or 7 in my book. Its tough to edge out Klasse as a sealant but UPP and BF are awesome competitors.
