plastic/rubber protection

Got the Hang of it Now
hello all,

this is my first post here and i have a question about cleaning the inside of my scion xb. the dash and panels are made of a plastic/rubber compound and have a bumpy pattern to it. kind of hard to explain but its kinda like the BMW dashboards and seems to almost be textured. i have tried cleaning it with soap and water and then applying some black majic water based interior shine. the problem is within a couple days, it looks like a cat has been sitting on my dash, especially in the sun.

is there any way to clean this dash, restore the deep black that it is, and keep from having tons of lint and whatnnot build up?

by the way, i NEVER ride with my windows down either and i dont have a cat. ;)

Hi Daos :welcome

You can try to first clean your dash w/ either a 10:1 apc dilution or a 6:1 water:woolite solution.
Then dress with either PB Natural look or 303 protectorant.

Being black you will probably see dust and whatnot on there quicker than if you have a lighter colored dash. I keep a MF in the car and give it a wipedown every few days to keep it neat looking.

yeah, i found that cleaning the interior dash with a damp MF towel did the trick. After that, I laced the towel with a bit of Black Majic Interior shine (water based) and did a very light coat and then smoothed it out with a clean MF towel. This seemed to get rid of the buildup, gave a nice aroma, and added a little bit of richness to the interior which is exactly how I like it. I do not like shine on the interior at all.

IF you dont like much shine I reccomend adams VRT. Its long lasting and looks great. For touch ups I use meguiars interior quick detailer. I mist a spray on the mf and wipe all the trim. I dont mist on the trim as I find it really deminishes the dressing look.

i know exactly what your dash looks like as well as the rest of your scion. My dad has a black one also. I dressed it one time with some water based stuff and it was the last time i did. That dash just attracts dust. I never tried it but maybe using leather conditioner would be better
