Plastic bag trick for applying wax?

I googled some tips on how to apply autoglym HD wax. Ive tried it 3 times and application and removal is garbage. I get so pissed off every time I use this product and promise I will never use it again. But I love the look and protection it gives me so I keep going back. I stumbled across a thread on here where someone complained about the application as well. And said instead of the applicator they give you the "plastic bag trick" would work better. Anyone heard of this trick before?

the plastic bag trick is to identify is the surface is clean and ready to have wax applied.

using a sandwich bag, or even a grocery store bag, place your hand in the bag, then feel the surface of the paint. this will amplify any dirt or debris on the paint surface.

if you have this, it's not yet ready to be waxed or sealed.

technomafia- That sounds like the way some people use latex/etc. gloves when doing the "bare hands" application with waxes like Zymol.

I guess it's a matter of an tiny amount of wax on the "applicator" (since it won't soak in as with foam), coupled with the heat from your hands.

I'll tell you why its hard to remove, you aren't going to like it, but here it is:

You are putting it on way too thick. If you can see it while you are applying it, WAY TOO much. You want just enough so you can barely see it when its hazed over. I would guess I use about 1/4-1/2 a teaspoon to do the whole car.

Also, how well prepped is your paint?

hahah im shot! I thought it was applying wax using a plastic ziploc over your hand. But am I onto something? How about damping the applicator, sealing it in a ziploc and applying wax like that? Im thinking the plastic may help it glide a little easier so its not so hard to apply. Or will the plastic scratch the paint?

I clay, SRP, topped with HD. And I ive tried it all, more, less, redamping the applicater with quick detailer. Nothing works and I get so aggrivated every time I use it.

So are you using more than a 1/2 a teaspoon for the whole car?

Give it another try just getting it on super super thin. To the point where you aren't sure if there is any. After about 15 minutes, you will see haze, then try removing it. AG HD is definitely one of those waxes that punishes you for over applying. Could be worse, Meg #16 or FK1000P turn into cement.

I swear I tried all that. The pad also seemed to dry up quickly. When id rewet it then it felt like it was to wet. I will literally scoop out a 1/2 teaspoon if you say thats enough for the whole car

The other thing to consider is that AG Hi Def is designed to be removed when its completely dry. The longer you leave it, the easier it will be remove, assuming you didn't apply it with a shovel. Trying to take it off early will result in streaking and smearing. If you can't tell what colour the car is as you are applying it, it's on too thick. When you apply it to the applicator, push down onto the wax, don't swipe. Swiping will put too much on the applicator. As Dan said, get it on thin.
