Pinstriping help, please?

Thanks, all.

I am just starting into this beauty - 1987 BMW 635CSi, for a friend of mine. Three of us flew out to Montreal, and drove it back home (just over 3000 km! What a fun road trip! (Except for the part where we had smoke coming in from the centre vents, haha))
I have never done a car with pinstriping!
Do you guys tape it off, or just go right over it with your polishers?

Thanks, guys!!!

From my experience: Matte stripes I tape over period. If you will be compounding at all I would tape over pin-striping completely. If it`s just polish and wax/sealant, I would just work over it as if it were paint.

If it`s vinyl tape, just leave it alone. Buff over it, but don`t dwell on it enough to generate any heat which could cause them to lift. There`s likely more danger involved in lifting off any masking tape if you cover them. Of course, if they`re painted stripes and they were painted over the clearcoat, you`ll want to mask them, but it doesn`t look like paint from your pics.

the pinstriping is vinyl tape, not matte, so I`ll follow your advice.
