The new used car had its first bath this weekend, and once the muck was off about 20 pinprick sized black holes in the paint at the leading edge of the hood were seen. Other than that the clean car only presented a couple of small paint chips in other locations. The car lived near some fields along the Pacific until I bought it and moved it inland, so it was exposed to a lot of dirt, some fog, and probably some salt air. The holes on the hood look too small to be rock chips, these are all smaller than a pinhead, but the location is where you'd expect rock chips to form. (My Protege5 also has chips in the exact same place, but those are normal sized paint chips.) Can sand make tiny dents like this? If not, what else would cause it?
In case it is relevant, the car is a white Civic.
Thanks.
