Pinnacle Souveran worth the price?

thanx for the heads up Rally

BTW all of these companies are making money hand over fist, look at zaino and menzerna do you really think it costs all that money to make there products

i think not

Diesel - I agree 100%! I got into a little disagreement with some members on the AG forum when I stated that price doesn't always equal quality. Facts are stubborn things and when I pointed out the difference between XMT (a product AG owns) and Optimum (just a product they sell) - well - lets just say you can get a lot more Optimum for your buck! Also, I would like to state that Autopia is the BEST forum for detailing that I've run across, and I've tried a half dozen!

But around here, there is tons of "fan brand loyalty"....Its like some infomercials around here. I have never been one to use one brand...My garage is full of almost every boutique brand there is...I bet there is a huge markup on every single one.

I think that wax plays a minor role in adding to the final apearance of a surface that has been polished properly. Wax helps even out a polshed finish also, which adds to it's depth. You shouldn't rely on wax to remove swirls or use it as a 1 step "cure" to correct a finish. I think it's real function is to build a protective coating on the finish to preserve a polished or new finish as long as possible. The best wax is the one that is easy to apply, lasts a reasonable amount of time and costs as little as possible. I'm sure there's lots of good waxes that don't cost alot, that's performance can measure equal to most high end waxes. I think that expensive waxes are more marketing hype than anything else and suck people in based on their retail price. There's nothing wrong with that as long as it doesn't force a perceived performance to the consumer that is incorrect.

But regardless of price, if "you" think an expensive wax makes your car look good, then "you" should use it. I like some of the expensive waxes. I dont like some of the others...But it is all personal preference.

Correct. Use what you like to use based on *your* own criteria. My thoughts are more directed towards the false hopes that some people think wax will do or does.

I only have a silver car or else I'd give [souveran] a try =(

Heh heh, Souveran is the only product my wife ever both noticed ("hey, my car looks different, what did you use on it?") and really liked (it's still her all-time favorite and she's seen a *lot* of LSPs on her car). And her car is silver ;)

But this whole question seems like just another YMMV sort of thing and if you can't afford to "waste" ~$70 finding out then you probably shouldn't spend that kind of money on car wax. OTOH, if somebody likes the smell of the stuff enough to buy it just for that, cool, it's their money.

Funny - 1 time I bought OTC Zymol because of it's coconut smell. I liked the smell better than the performance. :woot2:

It was that noticable of a difference? at $63 it is very tempting. I was about to order some Swissvax Samurai, now I may have to debate between the two.

I really think Souveran is the best carnauba out there. I buy it on sale but the durability is only great if you have a base of a sealant like AIO or the like underneath it.

Get the spray detail wax Crystal Mist to restore he shine.

Souveran's high solvents create an unmatched wetness on black and red but I think the new formulation of Z-5Pro gets very, very close and you get the extra durability.

I have tried all the high dollar Zymol waxes as well but they simply don't look as good or apply as well as Souveran.

You've tried all the high dollar Zymol's? I only ask because I am playing with Concours now and find it to be similar to Souveran in most ways, but quite a bit more clear. I don't like either better, just different.... they both look great though.

Yes, tried all, even the Ital and NSX waxes. Good but Souveran is better imho. Some Zymol is just over-priced stuff sold as a luxury item I have found.

Yeah, it was *for her* but I dunno if that means anything. IMO you can only take the opinions/experiences of others so far and then you just have to toss the dice and see how something looks to you on your car.

Value = What the buyer perceives or estimates the service or goods he is purchasing it worth.

I wouldn't pay $70 for a wax, when I can't honestly tell the difference. Others will buy into the marketing hype and see that "10% difference." Personal choice.

Now, is anyone interesting in buying a can of my special wax for just $499.99? You'll really feel that extra 10%! Paypal accepted. Heh heh.

On black/red/dark blue etc. I think Souveran is unbeatable if you want to use a carnauba. On lighter colored cars, Sig II, Max Wax, S100, Liquid Souveran are some that I prefer if I want to use a carnauba for whatever reason.

I also really like Meg's #26 and Adam's Buttery Wax because they're SO simple to use.
