Picnic with Poorboy and friends

It looks like I am out for the weekend. I noticed an oil spot under my car yesterday. It turns out one of my struts is leaking all over. It looks like I will be installing new struts and mounts on Saturday.

I apologize for the short notice, but I don't think I want to drive 5+ hours each way with a busted strut.

We are now only 2 and a half days away from the picnic event. The weather forecast looks pretty good for Saturday during the day. Any opinions regarding the start time for this event? How about 11am?

Here is a map of Darlington Park (pdf file). Supposedly, the "Upper Swim Lake" area is less congested. Maybe we could find a place not too far from the rest rooms?

Nick - Will you be able to arrive early to claim a good spot?

Patrick - Will your chicken required cooking on-site? Since ScottP will not be coming, we will not have the use of his grill. :( I think Steve still has that little tabletop grill that we used to cook the hotdogs on Detailing Day, but that doesn't have a very big cooktop. I'm considering switching my food item from hamburgers to hoagies so that on-site cooking will not be required.

Here is the updated list of confirmed/unconfirmed attendees and their responsible items. I will PM the people who have not RSVP'd.

Confirmed
1. awd330 +1, hotdogs, hamburgers (or hoagies if grill is not available), buns, assorted chips
2. Beercan31, cheesecake & water
3. Focusedonsound, soda & spinach dip
4. GSRstilez + Liz, baked beans and cole slaw
5. holland_patrick +1, chicken
6. Poorboy +3, split items with awd330 above plus bring the small propane grill

Not Confirmed
1. jaybs95 +1
2. JRdetailerwoman
3. mgm2003 +1
4. Setec Astronomy

We still need volunteers for the following items -
- Plates/cups/napkins/plastic silverware
- Ice
- Sandwich “fixings” (condiments, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc.)

Note: Please make sure you bring the necessary tools (coolers, serving spoons, grill accessories, etc.) to go with your items.

Arriving early shouldn't be a problem! Maybe ill just walk (I could always use a little excercise)!

Arent their grills their?
That's a long way to walk if you are carrying soda and spinach dip! :eek

I've never been there, so I'm not sure if they have any grills on-site. I thought Steve said that we had to bring our own grill. :dunno Could you swing by later today and ask the park employees if grills are available?

Would you want to bring something like chicken salad instead of chicken? Maybe some tuna salad or egg salad too? If you have an insulated carrier, you could bring some kind of warm pasta dish (e.g. lasagna, rigatoni, or spaghetti). Another option would be to pick up a couple pizzas. Nick might be able to recommend some restaurants near the park.

If we can't get confirmation regarding the availability of a larger grill, I'll swap out my hamburgers for a variety of hoagies (a.k.a. heros or submarine sandwiches). I'll bring a mix of turkey, ham, and roast beef sandwiches unless anyone has a special request.

Liz and I have an Ocean State Job Lot 1/4 mile from us. We picked up a rack with trays and sterno for VERY cheap (1 rack, tray, and 2 sterno's for about $5). We can pick up more if necessary. Just let us know soon :).

That was a good find Sean! Steve is coming back from vacation tomorrow. I'll call him in the morning to see if he thinks more warmer trays will be needed. I'll probably still plan to bring hoagies instead of burgers if no grill is available.

BTW - jaybs95 said that we wouldn't be able to make it after all, but he hoped we had fun.

The current confirmed headcount is 12 with 4 more unconfirmed.

Just to update again, a good time was had by all. The weather started a bit on the overcast side but ended up beautiful and sunny.
Thanks to everyone for coming...hope we can do it again:)
