Picking the right pad and polish combo

I have yellow, orange, white, black pads, and some Z-PC, with M205 and M105 coming this week.

I know yellow > orange > white > black

and

M105 > M205 > Z-PC

but what about when they work together? Which is the best to start with? Would think I would try M205+white first, but if that doesn't work, do I go M205+orange, or M105+white? Do I need to change pads too when going to a more abrasive product? So basically would need 2 white (one for 105 and one for 205) until I figure out which I need to get out what I want out?

Are there any articles or write ups on this area? Is there some fundamental knowledge about pads vs polish and when to step up one vs the other?

I would start with the ZPC and white go ZPC and orange then try the M205, M105 same way. The ZPC in my uses has more cut than people think.

I have almost the exact products (except a yellow pad) and I find M205 and white is a perfect combo. I don't like the dusting of Z-PC and M205 finishes down just as nice as Z-PC IMO, so it will probably be sitting on the shelf for a long time. Z-PC did however work great on my clear bra.

Try to keep the products on separate pads. I use 2 white pads for M205 so I can work longer before cleaning them. Otherwise, keep an eye on the pads and clean them when necessary (after a panel or 2).

I would personally start at M205/white and see what you think. If there are scratches that didn't get removed that you wanted to remove and you can't feel them with your fingernail, move to M105/orange and inspect. If it's all good, then follow up with M205/white. I bet you'll love the results. Be sure to read up on M105 to make sure you know how to work it, sometimes it's finicky.

The Z-PC does dust really bad/easy. I ended up using a spray of water on the pad which made it stop dusting.

I either marred some paint bad with the Z-PC or the marring is left over from an older more aggressive product.

Sounds like the M205+white is the starting point. You mention going to 105/orange, no 105/white combo in between?

By all means, least aggressive combo first.

I hardly *ever* use orange pads with moderate/mild products, but I make an exception with M205. At the suggestion of ebpcivicsi, I tried M205/orange and it worked out quite well.

So I'd see if the ZPC works (hey, it'll only take a moment), not that I'd expect it to be sufficiently aggressive.

Then M205/white. Then M205/orange. And *then* I'd try M105 if you still need more cut.

I'm going more towards M205/orange as an intermediate step than my previous M105/white. I hadn't seen it before I started inspecting with the SunGun, but now, IMO, M105 just leaves too much micromarring. So I'd rather do the "extra" work with M205 instead.

But OTOH, if M105/white will do a job, then there's no need to be using M105 with yellow or orange pads either. Same ol' same ol'...it just depends on the paint and the defects. But I like doing more with M205 and less with M105 if I can get away with it.

I'll again mention the M205/orange *Griot's* pad combo. Very nice, that unique Griot's polishing pad seems to work *so* well with M205.

I ended up using M205+LC Orange is working the best.

What should I follow up with? M205+LC Gray? Nothing? It *looks* fine after M205+Orange, but looks can be deceiving :) Any suggestions?

/runs off to finish the M205+Orange passes...
