Petroleum distillates and polymer sealants

I was reading an article on the Autopia forum regarding the the Klasse products and the so called expert was saying that he does not think polymer sealants work because waxes like Mothers etc that contain petrloeum distillates eat away the polymer sealants. I am hoping one of the Meguiars staff memebers could chime in here and advise if this is true, because if it is then topping NXt with a carnauba wax that contains these petroluem distillates will not work.

Is this the case?

This is also why its important to let polymer sealants set up/cure before readdressing with another product. I for one, dont personally find a whole lot of value adding a Nuba atop a synthetic anyway. Polys (good ones) are quite impressive in their quest for physical protection, and visual appeal. I guess one could add a sacrificial barrier, other then that, I find no use for it.

Theres not a whole lot that PD's wont deteriorate. But thank goodness theres a small amount made necessary for the use of Nubas.

I sampled a product called Xzilon the other day (Actually met with the president of the company) and found it to be extremely high in PD's. He insisted it could be layered or built up upon, to the point of 5 layers. I asked a few times if he was sure that he wasnt diminishing a previous layer with an additional application to which he replied, "No". I just find this a little hard to believe with the enormous amount of PD wafing through the air. But Im not a chemist, nor am I a sucker. I'll continue on, with a little added common sense.

Common sense prevails in most cases........

I'm with you Patrick, to each his own but I don't get the "adding a nuba" after sealing thing. I tried it once - did the whole Wolfgang line on my RAV4, wash, clay, pre-wax cleaner, and sealer - then topped a day later with Natty's Blue. I could not see any difference in color. After a few weeks, it seemed that the Rav was a dust magnet, I washed it - polished with XMT#1 and applied WG sealer. Paint seemed slicker and dust didn't seem to stick as bad. To me, it's an extra step I can do without.

Now I'm just as confused. Is there anyone out there who does layer and do you see any benefit or is just therapy because if it's therapy then I've already gone and bought myself some pretty expensive therapy!

Wow,

I am the exact opposite. I love the durability of the sealant, but the look of the Nuba. Whether it is the Blackfire system, that looks absolutely fantastic, or my old method of Menzerna FMJ, then topped with P21S or CG 50/50. They all look fantastic.

Oh by all means, to each there own. And if you have it, then you decide for yourself if theres value in it.

Im just saying that personally, I dont see a difference. I would rather apply a couple coats of synthetic then add a nuba.....

On properautocare, there is a really interesting look at all of this. It shows the difference via photos on silver of nuba vs. sealant...Really interesting stuff.
