Try doing a search on remvojg water spots. If i remember, somebody tried a bunch of different apporaches to removing the water spots, and finally found that oven cleaner was it, that finally removed the water spots.

I think the oven cleaner severly dulled the paint. It wasn't immediate, but was noticible after additional years of wear and tear. That stuff is pretty harsh.

Have you tried alcohol?

oven cleaner! no way! that is very daring. i couldn't use that on my paint. that just seems really desperate.

try the search? i did. i promise. the only reason i posted was because i exhausted the resources available to me and i knew some of you run into this occasionally. the vinegar was from a post. it worked the best out of everything i have tried. i just don't know if i keep using it will it help or does it do what it does the first time.

is it etched? i am not sure. i just checked with a finger nail. i couldn't notice any difference in texture. i don't really know how to check for etched.

oh. i forgot alcohol. i will try alcohol right now. back in a few. maybe there will be some new posts when i get back. thanks for the help. later...:wavey

well, i tried some alcohol (Crown eventually in my glass) and i tried more vinegar. they are still there. i polished and sealed my test spot before i came in. so, there we have it. i can only figure from this that it is etched (i don't know this. i am using deductive reasoning here). i would think that a painter would say this means a new paint job. what do detailers do for this though?

i just read on P&S website that what i have must be water stains (AKA etching i suppose!). well, they say i have to use a compoound. this would make sense. i do have clear coat. this paint was...let me check...put on in Jan of 2001 according to the door sticker. so, you can understand my determination to fix it. i had to park outside for 14 months that had a very good sprinkler system. now i have a place with a garage and i want to make it right. anyway, i will wait for your advice. i bought 3M rubbing compound fine cut for my wife's car. it says "removes water spots." yea, right. it removes your paint to the same depth of the water STAIN, right? is this my next step? i don't want to do anything without your help. thanks.

Mr. W, I am in your boat too. been parking outside and the complex's sprinklers were upgraded (they are now DOWNgraded in my parking area thank you very much!).

The vinegar is helping. I am going to try wetting down some paper towels with vinegar and leaving them on the affected areas for a while to see what happens. That may be all it needs. Claybar did not help much.

Sounds like polishing is your next step. I suggest a little 3M SMR. If SMR doesn't cut it, try 3M FI-II with a PC.
