I think that the 3M website is less than informative. But they also don't have the inititive to read sites like this.

Similar to the Meguiar's business model. They seek a large market, and ignore the small demographic that could give them credibilty beyond what they have.

Witness the Zaino phenomenon...

Yeah, like those 3M marketing genius' read this!

As a matter of fact, here's a challenge to 3M's marketing group:

I (we) don't think you care.

Baltic,

Can you guide me or tell me what pads to get from 3M and where? They have that professional detailing video on their site but I can't find their products for that fine finish procedure. There website has all these links. I wish they had all the polishes where they say polishes and glazes are ( it seems to be scattered all over the place in their site.) I have yet to find detail polish 308 and the black foam waffle pad.

I want 3M machine products, just can't find anything.

ahhhh any help would be appreciated.

What should I ask him about 3M?

anything? And who is this person exactly, that they will have all the answers?

I'll check Zainos website again though.

Thanks for reply no luck though.

Can't find the detail polish 308 and 108 on either site.

Maybe someone will come along and know exactly how to handle this.

If you go to your local autobody supply store, they can put you in contact with a rep. from 3M.

Maybe I should just call them on the 1-800 number.

I am buying supplies and it is very expensive so far. I just want to make a good decision so that I don't buy something I don't need.

i habe the whole 3m auto catalog. Got everything from waxes/polishes to tapes and glues. Some stuff you'd never think they'd make too. I can even order the display cases. :-)

My 3m dist. down here in hell (location to the left) gave me this book.

mind sharing some of the info with me?

Since you have and order your stuff from them and am assuming you use it as well?

since you are among the few that actually use the products and pads for buffing I would like to discuss further if this is permissible?

I got the "Deluxe Porter Cable 7424 Accessory Kit" from

properautocare.com. It seems like a good way to start.

everyone must be where I am at then. Some are about to buy 3M stuff or have it and have not used it.

What to do.

The key is to get into the part of their website that sells their professional line. Here's a link to their buffing pads, accessories, clay & glazes/polishes.

3Mâ„¢ Compounds, Glazes and Buffs

Click the link below to be taken to their general site for professional detailing supplies. If click on the "waxes, polishes & compounds" link, you'll see the listing for Detail Polish 108, 208 & 308 & a whole slew of other stuff.

Online Store For Detailing Professionals

I hope these links help. If not, let me know.

3 words.

You The Man.

Have you checked out the video at 3M?

Anyway, Thanks for running around and finding all that info for me. I was starting to think I was going to be lost and never buy anything.

Do you use those 3M products?

I am still confused about the backing plates and such. I am getting the dewalt 849. Can I use a velcro backing plate with the 3M system do they recommend and require the 3M backing plates and pads, which I assume are not velcro?

Thanks a bundle

Hi knight,

Sorry for not replying sooner.

I bought everything for my 849 from http://store.yahoo.com/classic-motoring/index.html. They have the velcro backing plate for the 849. I also bought some 3m products from them and the pads.

I bought the 3m Perfect - It Swirl Remover and the 3m Perfect - It Fine Cut Compound. I started with the compound but I didn't think it was needed for my car because the swirls were very minor, so then used only the Swirl remover for the rest of the car.

The swirl remover comes for dark colored cars, and for light colored cars. Next weekend I'm doing my buddies car that is silver, so i can report back on the results on the lighter paint next week.

I liked the swirl remover, however I think I was a little to anal in trying to even out the product, it seemed oily and it was hard to get the finish to look like it was not smeary. Part of the problem could be that I was working under Florecent lighting.

The pads I bought were the 7 1/2" Yellow and White Foam Finger pads. I also bought some MF towels. This was my first experience with MF towels and I was impressed.

Check out Classic Motor Accessories web cite. I followed their directions exactly and I was very happy with the results and the products.

I have more digitals of the results and I'll post them after Xmas.

Knight you can email me at todd.nolan@att.net if you have more questions about the 3m products I used.

Have a good xmas!
