My windshield is very clean due to my use of an MF and EO 20/20. I keep my wiper blades extremely clean as well, cleaning them every week with EA 20/20 and every so often with a dose of 303.



However, I notice that when it's raining, there's several spots where my windshield has streaks/smears when the wipers go over it.. One huge mark is at the very end of the driver side wipers travel -- it's just this huge streak about 1/2 inch wide that is as long as the wiper. If I spray water on the windshield and wipe with an MF, I can also see this streak..



I'm totaly puzzled by this and have tried everything to get it off, even using a clay bar. All of this hasn't helped...



I'm looking for some expert advice here!
 
You don't mention how long you've had this problem nor how old the car in question is but ... My WRX was delivered with the same problem. I never found the single, correct solvent but I used windshield washer fluid, alcohol, naptha and xylene in addition to half a dozen different, branded glass cleaners - each applied with a dedicated scrubber or even 0000 steel wool. Eventually I just used PrepSol every other day and I finally got rid of it after nearly six months of trying. Be careful about slopping this stuff on the paint (and yourself - contain xylene which has a history of birth deformity issues). Wish I could find a sealant as tenacious as this organic was!

I just bought the car 3 months ago, but it was used -- it's a 1997. It's been like this since the day I bought it, and I suspect it's been like this for the previous owner too, but I'm unsure for how long.

This "prepsol" stuff sounds promising and a bit dangerous.. where can I buy this stuff?
 
What shampoo are you using? The reason I ask is that I used to have the same problem when using Autoglym shampoo, which has some kind of glossing agent in it. I tried P21S shampoo and after a few washes, these marks disappeared.

I'm using Meguair's gold class shampoo... I don't think that's causing it as that's a widely used shampoo.
 
I had the same problem on my 95' M3. I finally fixed it by polishing the glass with my old bottle of Eagle One Glass Polish (no longer made).



Find a good glass polish.
 
I have a similar problem, and previously saw Zaino Glass Polish recommended. From their website...

Do new cars likely have Coated Glass? Any way to tell other than calling a probably clueless dealership?
 
I've had this same problem as well. I had thousands of strange spots covering the windshield. I only could see them when it was wet, or worse - when the wipers passed over them briefly. The morning dew really brought them out as well. In addition, I had those vertical lines that the wipers make when they stop their forward motion to return. It became very distracting. They were alive and multiplying. I've tried it all... glass polish, glass cleaner, paint remover, paint thinner, Bon-Ami, WD-40, new blades and even lighter fluid-unlight (helped alittle-lighting it was next). I gave up. Then, I tried Westley's Bleach White Tire Cleaner. I sprayed it on, rubbed it in with my hand, coating the windshield. I waited 30 seconds, and cleaned it off using a miracle towel. I couldn't believe it. They all disappeared. After 3 months of searching for a product, the answer was right inside my garage. Give it a try. It just might work for you. I just wish I knew how they got there in the first place.

I know it sounds drastic, but maybe NuFinish?? :confused:



I have this same problem with a couple of people's rides I detail from time to time. It seems to be RainX related..... if your car has ever had rainx applied it seems to want to 'Etch' the windshield with the wiper-prints. :down

I stand corrected - it must have been the fumes. Yes, it was "Westley's Bleach White Tire Cleaner". You can pick this toxic solution up at any Target, Walmart, Pepboys etc. All I can say is, the stuff worked - on glass! No more spots. Just let it 'sit for half a minute or so before wiping. I used a Miracle Towel to wipe it up. Try it on a small section first. I followed it up with regular glass cleaner.

Okay, I managed to buy some "Bon Ami" cleanser at Fred Meyer. It was right next to the "Comet" and "Ajax" as others said!



I was reading the label on it and it says specifically: "Do not use on glass or mirrors". This is a bit scary considering you guys are recommending to use this on the windshield?



Have I purchased the wrong stuff? It's a yellow cylindrical can make out of cardboard (i think it's cardboard)...
 
Here's the product I had great success with. $2.00 at Walmart. I was able to really look over the windshield the past two days. All those vertical wipers marks and strange spots are completely gone. If you have the same condition I had, I'm sure it will work for you. As I mentioned, smear it on with your hand, let it sit for half a minute or so, then wipe.

I dunno about using it on glass but I do remember another member using it?



Try it on a mirror in the house first?
 
Ive been inspired today by a couple who explorer I detailed 6 months earlier. It was completely trashed by them and their children and dog. I never met them until now because it was a gift from a friend of theirs I did while they were on vacation.

Anyway they called me to detail their vehicles and honestly I was dreading it . Theres nothing more I hate than kid/dog thrashed gross vehicles.

To my complete surprise they had purchased 2 brand new vehicles and they were practically spotless! They said they loved having a clean vehicle and want me to detail them on a regular basis.

Not only that but they live only one block from my house and are super nice easy going people!

Its stories like this that make me love my work! And I never dreamed I would get such nice jobs from an old trashed SUV . It goes to show you , you just never know with people ! People CAN change!
