Pen ink on leather.....what to do????

Don't be shocked... this has worked for me... test in an area that will not be seen first*, but if a little naptha (zippo lighter fluid) won't remove it, laquer thinner will! Be sure to wash it with water afterwards then treat with something like lexol after.

*to do the test, use a white terry towel with the chemical on it, using your fingertip wrapped in the towel wipe the area and check for seat color on the towel.

This thread was started two years ago, but good info to have.

Let's see, he probably dumped alcohol, hairspray, magic eraser, lacquer thinner, body prep, lighter fluid and milk on it. I'd say if after all that and 2 years later if he hasn't solved it, then probably not gonna!

An old trick that has worked for me is to use a waterless hand cleaner like
Goop. Dip a white terry towel in it and rub the ink off of the leather. It hasn't failed yet.

Ok we can add hand cleaner to the list and I think I forgot citrus cleaner and APC from the original post. That seat should be whistlin' clean by now, if there's any paint left that is!

BTW not making fun of the hand cleaner. That could work on some stuff and I've used hairspray a time or two also. Just thought it was funny all the different stuff people came up with to try on this poor guy's seat. The milk one was especially cute. Reminds me of the time I was driving along and spilled an entire milk shake on the seat. Maybe I shoulda left it for its cleaning properties :crazy2:

Stoners Xient is a citrus based cleaner that might be why the hand cleaner works as well, most all of those are citrus based

lol I was going to try that hand cleaner thanks for the update. I'll guess I'll try that paint thinner. I tried a Bug and tar removal product which smells like paint thinner but i don't think its actually a paint thinner. And it didn't work. I tryied hair spray and I think its all gimick.... I ask 2 of my suppliers about blue ink on leather and both of them pretty much said the same thing. They can't find anything that will work.

Kids and blue ink pens don't mix well

Not that I doubt people, maybe it's just me, but I've never been able to get ink out of leather unless it was coated recently with a conditioner which disallowed the ink from sinking in or the odd case where you do the ink mark and right away get it before it has a chance to settle in. The reason ink is so hard to remove is because it's an actual dye. Also I'd never use anything too harsh of a cleaner not made for leather unless I was ready to recolor the finish, because that's the result you'll probably get.
