tell me what is better and why

I just cooked another PC today and had to make an emergency run to the store to buy another one!

do I keep buying PCXP's every few months, or switch it up?

Hands down, Griots. I've had the original PC, the UDM, the Cyclo, the PC XP, and now the Griot's. It's by far the best DA I've ever used. I compared the Griot's side-by-side with the PC XP and the Griot's was smoother, more ergonomic, and felt more powerful overall. I have zero complaints about my Griot's machine. $130 and a lifetime warranty doesn't hurt either!

And if the above posts aren't enough to convince you, ask Barry Theal about how the two compare. He replaced his XP with the GG and thinks that the Griot's is the [stuff]. Plus, you'd have that lifetime guarantee backing it up.

IMO, the PCXP isn't that big of an improvement over the old one. i would take the GG6 over it anyday of the week...

the griot IS better but the exterior casing and build quality seems to be of higher quality on the XP. always thought that was weird.

i hope i never have to use it, but the lifetime guarantee sweetens the deal along with the extra power.

i don't have any problems and is perfectly fine for me. at least with the GG6, i haven't heard anyone breaking off the shaft like what barrytheal and another individual experienced. it seems like the older PC's have better build quality then the newer ones too. if i were to purchase another DA, the PCXP would be my last choice and i would opt for the G110v2 if the GG6 weren't an option...

Wonder if that'll ever matter  I've, uhm...used my Griot's mighty hard and the casing *is* a bit the worse for wear. Not really an issue now, but we'll see down the road. It's not the kind of machine you oughta go dropping if you want it to stay like-new.

But then people have busted the top handles on Flex 3401s too...I guess it's not impossible to beat up *any* tool.

well casing construction and fit and finish dont matter that much, BUT the overall feel of the outside can usually give u a gauge on their overall brands quality control as a whole. the on/off switch on my griots is crap. i have a hard time turning it on and off and i wouldnt be surprised if it snaps off one day, it just doesnt feel right. and both my flex 3401 and griots are developing hairline cracks in the weak parts of the plastic housing. and no i hardly ever drop them since i also own and prefer a makitab06040. and btw if anyones wondering the switch on the makita feels just like the griots. i think they had it assembled in the same plant in china they look and feel exactly the same but the makita switch is orange. i just prefer the backing plate and dual modes of the makita over flex. flex does have better ergonomically designed higher quality buttons tho.

i have a dewalt and pc7424 that has been literally dropped and beaten to death but has no cracks and the fit and finish is still perfect. i feel that if i treated my griots or megs 110 that way the they would be hash. i actually prefer the griot motor then the megs 110v2 then the portercable offerings last, but as i mentioned i felt the build quality was opposite order.:nixweiss its not a big deal or a dealbreaker(obviously, since i own all of them) just was adding my 2 cents on fit n finish. :waxing:

jaynick808- Hey, sounds like you have as many different polishers as I do! Cool to have options, huh?

Yeah, I simply *hate* the on/off switch on the Griot's too! Bad location IMO also. So I'll sure agree that the machine's not perfect. I guess I'm getting used to the switch, but yeah...can't abuse it the way I can some of my other units. Maybe "abuse" is the wrong word, but hey, [stuff] happens.

My PCs have been a mixed bag; the one needed rebuilt awfully soon and the other has been making worrisome noises for quite a while now. My big gripe with them is that they simply seem wrong for the whole "polishing cars" thing. Great finish sanders, just so-so car polishers. Eh, I don't like the switch location on those either (gee, is there no pleasing this guy?!?).

Heh heh, if you want to talk indestructible build-quality, there's always the Cyclo. Mine have really been through it, and zero issues ever. When I sent the old one in for a rebuild (over 20 years with *zero* maintenance, not even oiling or a brushes change) they called to say it didn't really *need anything* (I did have 'em change the brushes anyhow).

You know there's a new Cyclo out with varible speed control.......c'mon, you know you want it....you're looking at it,,getting the VISA card out.

Please post how it feels as soon as you can.

I looked into that but decided the variable speed wasn't as big a diff as I'd hoped. Forget the detail about why I felt that way though....

Hey, as you know I'm always looking for excuses to buy another polisher, let alone a "better" Cyclo! But I decided to pass on that one.

I think once my PCXP dies I might try the GG. What are the limitations of the warranty and has anyone experienced the process?

dave, i think you would really like it (noticably more power than the PC and i'm sure you've heard all the raves from everyone who has bought one), and all you have to do is send it back if there's anything wrong with it (the back of their receipt makes returns as easy as could be). if you purchase it direct, you have 6 months to try it out and if you don't like it, send it back. since you're going to detail fest, demo one and see for yourself and that way you'll know for sure. hope you've been doing well! ;)

p.s. there's free shipping all through spring, so if you buy one and don't like it, you won't be losing out for having to pay for the shipping (if they were only to refund the machine only) as well...

At Griot's Garage, we want you as a customer for life. Everything you purchase from us comes with a lifetime guarantee against defect. We want you to enjoy our quality products for 180 days and have fun with them! If you don't like it for any reason during this time, return it for a full refund or credit. After that, you're covered with our lifetime guarantee against defect, in which we will either repair it, replace it, or credit your purchase price if we are able to do neither. Some items have a life span during normal use and they wear out. Our warranty does not include replacement of such items after normal use. Of course our guarantee doesn't cover abuse... But you already knew that.

Customers for life. That's our guarantee.

thats one polisher ill probably never get my hands on. not really interested in the dual head cyclo but i do appreciate the industrial kirby-vacuum-like american build quality!

hehe i agree with the switch positioning on both, dont worry you arent the only one thats a stickler for UI controls. :high5:

bigal3- i forgot about griots 180 day satisfaction guarantee. no wonder i bought one! good deals.

Frank, I never even used the handle, took it off before I even unwrapped the cord from its velcro and twist tie right of the box!!! I never used one on the PC either
