PC's... whats the diffrence between them all?

yes i was planning on getting the smaller plate/pads..ideas on where to find these smaller ones?

Yeah, try HERE Note that the plates are actually a little smaller than the size of the pads that fit on them. I keep one PC set up with the 5" one and one PC set up with the 3.5". I use 6" counterweights on both.

I've never had any problems using slightly "big" pads with the 5" plate; some 6.5" ones overhang a bit but it's not a problem.

Try Meguiar's dealer locator. In a major metro area like Chicago I'll bet you have a bunch of paint stores near by.

PC.

i'm actually way South Chicago.... if i put the name of my town on here no one would know where the hell i'm talking about :bounce

The only one's the come up in a 20 mile radius is:

Walmart, Kmart Pepboys, Autozone

Are the 3.5" Backing Plates as Flexable as say the 5"?

I need a plate that i can bend the edge in enough to get into about a 1/5" sections.... and looking at the metal piece on the 3.5", it dosent look like it will bend very well?

No, they're not that flexible, and it wouldn't matter anyhow. To get into a tight spot you're gonna be better off using the over-hanging edge of a pad, where it sticks out beyond the backing plate. The *pad* does the flexing in this case; you force it into the area you want to work. Risky with a rotary, but safe with a PC.

Actually, none of the flex plates actually flex all that much, but then the rigid ones won't flex at all so it's all relative.

and lets not forget that the counter weight only cost about two bucks, so that is just not an issue....get the best price you can...Lowes for $99.90 was the best I could find last week so I bought it.

Some places have kits which include pads and the like. If it comes with what you need it can be cheaper to go that way. Espcially with the 10% off 1st order coupon from http://www.autopia-carcare.com/

gotcha, thanks guys for all the help... now my search continues for the best prices :)

so far that $$ at lowes is the cheapest i've heard of... i've been looking everywhere on-line and can't find any PC for under $120

and finding the pads i need at a good prices are also a pain [:(]

Alright, using search I found this thread because I went to lowe's today and found the 7336, but couldn't remember if the 7336 or the 7424 were better and I wanted to know before i purchased it.

Anyways, I went to costaltool.com to see their price and found this!

Difference between the 7424 and 7336

Then I thought I'd add to the community by posting that.

How about the PC 7424 from Amazon. It comes with free shipping. It has a 6" pad. But would anybody have any idea what size counterweight it comes with? Hope somebody can help.

the pc7424 comes with a 5" counterweight and the 7336 6" counterweight (the pad that comes with the pc isn't recommended for use on cars). between the two, there isn't any noticable difference in using either of them on numerous forums that people have discussed about this issue. it seems like alot of people will buy the pc7336 at lowes for around $100 (there is a 10% moving discount you can use off your purchase), and then you can buy a backing plate/pads combo online at numerous different vendors (megs, sonus, etc). :xyxthumbs
