PC Techniques??

What are your PC techniques? Are you moving it slow, medium or fast? Do you go front to back, side to side, or both? How big of an area do you do when you place a thin line around the pad? Do you put product on the paint by tapping it on or spreading it with the pad before you start the PC? Your help is much appreciated. :)

As for movement speed............. it depends on the product?

When I work with an abrasive product I move the PC very, very slowly.......... probably more slowly than most people. I just barely keep the machine moving. The slow movement allows the machine, product and pad to build up heat........... which breaks the product down. For waxes, and sealants, I move the machine much faster. I don't want those products to break down, I just want to apply a thin, even coat.

Here's a good process for you to follow for working with most polishes:

Apply two beads of the product across the pad in a "+" fashion.

Place the pad on the paint surface. (don't turn the machine on yet)

Move the pad around a small area to spread the product over the surface of the pad. (machine is not turned on yet)

Turn the machine on to a speed of about 2 or so, and quickly spread the product over the small area that you are going to work. (about a 2" x 2" section is good)

Now, without removing the pad from the paint surface, turn the machine up to 4.5 to 5 (depending on product) and work that 2" x 2" area. Work the area first with a back and forth pattern, using slighly overlapping strokes, then in a side to side pattern, and then in a diagonal pattern to both sides of the area you are woking. Obviously, somewhere in that process the product will break down. When it does, turn the machine off (before removing from the paint), apply more product and re-work the area, or start on a new section.

For applying waxes and sealants, prime the pad with a good QD, apply the product to the pad, spread the product to a small area before turning on the machine, turn the machine on to around 3 or so...................... and apply.

Hope this helps.

I do what boss does, only i start my passes diagonally, then the other way diagonally, then side to side, then front to back with the "flow of air". I read that somewhere and have just always done that, dont know if it really matters.:dunno:

I do everything with the "flow of air"....apply sealants and dressings, remove them with MF's, even when im washing with soap and water i move the mitt/pad the same way, never in circles.
