PC swril marks

I was using my PC with the wool pad at speed 4 with Meguiars dual action polish and created many tiny circular marks. What am I doing wrong here and how do I fix it. I am guessing that the polish was too harsh or the speed was too high.

Right now I shy away from ever using the wool pad with this polish on my black Maxima. Any help would be great.

By the way, I find Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner Plus (detailer line) to be fantastic. It took out lots of dirt and stains for just about any surface. I started using it for kitchen countertops and it cut through grease wiht ease.

To fix this move to a finer polish and pad. The wool pad is very aggresive and might create tiny siwrl marks like you see. a lighter polish and foam pad will remove this tiny swirl marks. then follow up with a sealant and you should be set. Try Meguiars DA polish or Meguiars #9 SMR 2.0 with a foam polishing pad to remove thise swirls.

I also respect you for having a black car. :bow

EDIT: Technique matters too. David B's video was very good, look a few threads down for a link, took me roughly 2 hours to d/l (56K), but it he uses a wool pad and shows how to use it correctly. Starting out slow then moving the speed up to break down the polish.

Hi mch, I'm going to give this a shot although I can't be really specific because I'm not familiar with that Meguiar's product. However many cleaner/polishes use diminishing abrasives. These products need to be worked back forth multiple times on high speed to begin to break down the abrasives to finer and finer particles which will work out the rougher abrasions caused by the first pass of the product. If you only go over an area once or twice you will be working the abrasive particles in their largest state which will create swirls. If you haven't already done so continue working the product in with multiple passes. I like to start off with medium to firm pressure on the PC then gradually lighten the pressure as the material begins to dry. The last couple of passes are made with just the weight of the PC itself. At this stage the polishing material is almost gone.

Unless you really need the cutting action I would stop using the wool pad and go to either a white foam pad or a yellow foam pad which provides more cutting action than the white pad.

Hope this helps. :)

I think short cut is on the right track here - I have had EXACTLY the same problem with DACP first time I used it on my black Porsche and that was with a foam pad. However I've used it more recently and worked it much longer and the problem seems to have gone away. with all that said, though, I think 3m FI-II is a better product when you need something a step-up in aggressiveness from SMR. In fact I recently tested a bunch of products like this, including FI-II and DACP, in preparation for testing Klasse on the M5. You'll find the info here.
