PC Swirl Reduction (56k warning)

Yeah, I said "reduction" because I honestly couldn't get the swirls out completely. I've only been using the PC for a short time, but no matter how hard or light I press, these swirls just won't go away completely on my wife's 6 month old Jetta.

I guess its true that you ultimately need a rotary to get the cutting power necessary to totally remove swirls. The PC does a good job at reducing their appearance, but it would probably take several more passes to get the result and I just wasn't up to it.

Did nail a few neat pics, though, after the following steps completed:

LC Yellow w/ OC

LC White w/ OP

LC Blue to apply PB EX-P

Zaino Z6 for gloss enhancement and sick beadage

Detailing in an apartment = lots of breaks to explain what you're doing to passersby...

Didn't manage to get a picture that showed the remaining swirls very well. You can sorta see them here:

Covered in EX-P:

I think I'm gonna use my brother's Chicago Electric rotary when I tackle the M3 in the background tomorrow. At least the wife's car is now protected for the next six months!

Honestly, that is a lot less swirls than 95% of the cars on the road. Very wet shine, btw. :)

Even with a Cyclo, yellow cutting pads and OHC, VW and Audi paint is very hard to correct.

great front shot with the clouds reflection! Looks good, like Scottwax said, those audis and V-dubs are hard to correct because of their rockhard clear.

I think you did a great job!

Jim

Maybe the CC is hard. I have about the same luck with swirl removal on the M. These German cars make it hard for abrasives to work, but I suppose the CC will be less prone to further swirling.

I do love the wet look that EX-P and Z6 provide. I might tone it down a notch with some Natty's Blue.

Thanks for the kind words!

Add Volvos to that list.

Well, no wonder I've been having the hardest time with my GTI. The paint was in great condition and after going with Zaino with orange and white pads on the 7424 I ended up less than pleased.

Well, it sure is good to hear that it's not just poor technique, or something! I guess I should be satisfied with the results I managed to get. Hard to believe a CC that hard could get swirled in just 6 months!

The new generation (MKV) has a water based paint that is MUCH softer than the previous generations. My '07 VW is black and scratches every time I touch it, but my mother's and finance's '04 jettas are rock hard. I can lean on the PC @ speed 6 and not get them to come clear.

I'm not bashing on the OP's skills, the car looks great. :up

I have an 06 VW GLI and eventhough I have been border line OCD in taking care of it, I still have managed to get some light swirls/scratches in there.

Over the last weekend, I tried to polish the swirls out using PC 7424 with LC CCS white pad and Megs' #80. Like you, I was not able to remove them.

Nice work though!

Considering how hard that CC your work looks great. Like someone else said, you have less swirls than 95% of the cars out there.
