PC speed 5.5 ?

"I coulda had a V-8"
I have a PC 7424 and quite often I have seen references to speed 5.5. I have a new PC 7424 and I have speed 5 and 6 but no 5.5. My PC runs very smooth at 5 and then I to crank it up to 6 and it buzzes! No stops inbetween.
There are clicks/stops for every setting between 1-5 but nothing for 5.5.
Anyone else have that problem or is it just me?
Do older models have a 5.5 setting but newer ones don't?
Thanks for any input.

It isn't marked on the speed dial, but my PC definitely has a setting between 5 and 6. It clicks into place when you rotated the dial. If you are certain that there is no stop at that point on your machine, I would definitely return it to the vendor for a replacement. Also on mine, the speed difference between 5 and 5.5 isn't very noticible (sp?). It sounds like you might have defective speed control.

Also, the difference between 4.5 and 5.5 is pretty noticeable. Your not doing much polishing at the speed of 4. You can also tell a difference between 5.5 and 6.

Thanks for your help.

I called supplier and they checked another 7424. No 5.5 setting!
Called manufacturor, no 5.5 setting!
Only thing I can guess is that older models have a 5.5 setting and newer ones don't.

Turn it to 6 and then turn it 1 click back...that's 5.5

I can't get there from here...I click back on my PC is 5.0!

carazy, my PC does the same as yours, no click between 5 and 6. Also the 10 or more other PC's I have used or tried also didn't have a click between 5 an 6. This is for both the 7336 and 7424models.

So, yours and my PC have no 5.5 setting.
Any thoughts as to why some do and some don't?
Just curious

Carcrazy.

I just went out to the garage and brought my PC into my office to see if I really did know what I was talking about.

Sorry to have to tell you that I didn't. Know what I was talking about that is.

My PC DOESN'T have a 'click between 5 and 6. I was certain it did. But is doesn't.

Sorry to have led you down the path on that one.

Should have checked before I ran my mouth off. Oh well, wasn't the first time.

freedre.

Thanks for checking. The manufacturer must have made some changes somewhere along the way. So for now it's either a 5 speed or a 6 speed.

My PC 7336, (same basic unit), was purchased October 8, 2002, and it does not have a detent or stop between 5 and 6.
Interesting that in the almost 2 years I have owned it, I never had any reason to ever look until this thread. Probably will never look again.
Seems like somewhere around 4 or 5 usually works for me. Kind of a case of wherever I happen to set it. Might be 4, might be 5, or it might end up at 4.5.

carazy,

I seriously doubt that any of them have a click between 5 and 6. I think most people never really noticed. freedre and CharlesW Checked and their PC'S didn't have a click. I bet that this is the case with the others. I have used or tried at least 10 different PC'S and they did not have a click between 5 and 6.

I just checked my PC, and it doesn't have a click for 5.5 either. However, I often place the control into the 5.5 position and it remains there on its own with no problems.
