PC question

I just received my PC today and was trying to set it up . I purchased the Megs backplates for it . My question is this . The PC came witha "spacer" washer . Does this need to be used with the backplate ? I cannot find anything on the directions for it .

The people at Porter Cable said it was to go between the hub and the backing plate.
Does it need to be used? :dunno
I didn't use it for quite a while because I didn't know where to use it. I use it now, but the only difference I can see is having a little more room to insert the wrench when/if you are changing backing plates.

You know, that must be what Ashley was asking about a few weeks back when she got her pc. And I never saw one of those in my box! I hope it isn't too important.
