I have a 2000 honda civic and i was wondering how do i polish the area right under the taillight and between that and the bumper. Would i used the side of the pad? I read never to tilt the pc so i couldnt do it that way.

Thanks

Some areas of vehicles are impossible to cover with the PC and larger pads. You may be able to cover that area with a slight tilt on the PC. Also depending on what products you are using at the time coming in contact with the tailight shouldn't be a big problem. If you are using abrassive compounds just be sure to tape the lights.

For the tight areas a 4" spot pad with the small backing plate works well.

Then if that doesn't work then that area may need to be done by... sigh... hand.

I'd go ahead and use the edge of the pad, but I'd be a little careful about it. The PC isn't like the rotary and I've never had any problems doing stuff like this with it.

Oh, and while you gotta be careful about what products you use, I polish taillight lenses with the PC and my regular polish all the time, no problems. I got mighty aggressive with the Blazer's taillights and they turned out surprisingly well considering how bad they were when I started.

Hey Accumulator, a friend of mine (31 years teaching autobody in high school) and runs a shop and used car dealership - told me he wet sands with 600 grit sand paper to clean up headlight lenses, then hits them with a rotary buffer. I saw the results and I'm convinced we baby stuff too much, cause they sure looked good!

JuneBug- Heh heh, 600 grit huh  That sounds like the painter who's working on my Jag, he thinks I oughta have 1500 and do more wetsanding and less polishing as I struggle with the M3. But then headlight lenses are made to withstand high temps, and are thus gonna be tougher than taillight lenses.

I think I'll leave the really aggressive solutions to people who know how to pull 'em off ;)

I try to strike a happy medium between overly-gentle/ineffective and overly-aggressive/issue-precipitating. But then I'm the guy who messed up some b/c paint with the PC this year too :o
