PC Pads in the UK

Others are available in the USA and I'm about to try Propel (GB anyone?? ;) ) [/B]

AndyC

I would be interested in a GB of the propel pads if we can get some discount on a big order, let me now if you go ahead with the GB.

Will do guys - watch this space.

Rich - I used RMG/YCM last night both with a yellow Megs pad. Spot polished with SSR2/2.5 using a white LC pad - very nice!

I've got the SFX pads & backing plate and they're comparable IMHO to the Megs setup - but I prefer working with the Megs on the Autopia flexiplate TBH. It may just be getting used to working with a new system (the SFX plate's bigger in diameter)

The 4" spot pads would probably work well on small areas and I believe they generate more heat so work products slightly better BUT I couldn't see any major improvement on the 205.

Glad you've made the jump Rich - you won't regret it!

BTW has Alex spoken to you about GT Battle yet?

ive just ordered some finishing pads for my cyclo ive had sittinga round for a week. Once they arrive i'll go do some damage to my car.

Never used a power polisher before so im like the rest of the new guys and think im going to be left with a bare metal wing or bonnet lol.

Thats part of the reason im justgoing to try some glaze and wax first with soft finishing pads. Then i'll move onto sorting a few minor scratches that are bugging me.

Being 2 x 4" (velcro) pads ive found it hard to find anywhere that sells them and have had to order from www.smartvaleting.co.uk for £10.85 a pair.

Is it possible to buy 6" pads and cut them down to 4"? it sounds a bit DIY but would open up a lot more retail outlets for me

Andy what's the white LC Pad polishing? what does that compare to Megs/Sonus pad wise?

I have ordered both the 5 inch and 6 inch flexi plates from Autopia which one would I use with the Meguiars pads?

I went for the 4 inch pads for the Clios valences and skirts as they are fairly small and tricky looking.

Cheers for the trial day at yours, I wouldnt have made the jump or otherwise.

Spoke to Alex earlier this week when I ordered some Speed Glaze. Should have grabbed some megs pads at the same time, will see how I get on with the Sonus DAS and SFX ones. I said to Alex to count me in for the GT day.

Andy, What are those 'SMART' products like? have you (or anyone) tried any of them at all - or was this just a decenpt place to get cyclo pads?

Thanks

Rich - the white PC compares roughly to the yellow Megs. I've found them to be slightly firmer.

I use the 5" backing plate with all pads except for the SFX (where I use the SFX plate - 6" from memory?) and the spot pads which of course need the 4" plate.

GT Battle sounds like a good day - I'll email or PM you over the weekend as I guess we may as well convoy up there on the Friday - better than racing up through traffic and not being prepared.

I'd say to anyone who's nervous about using a PC - DON'T BE! I was when I first got mine and I've used it on a lot of different cars with loads of products/pad combos. Just take your time, start with the mildest combination of pad/product and you'll be fine. There's loads of hints & tips here and I'll happily do another demo day if required for anyone else considering buying one.

I also think we really ought to do a UK get together as there's loads of UK people here now - we need a central venue so as to give all those north of the Watford Gap a chance to join in so can everyone have a think about this? I'm happy to do something at mine but I'm down in Hampshire which is probably too far for many but I can do a BBQ or something.

Could those interested either in this or something more central let me know.

Cheers Andy.

Still looking up here for a central location will keep everyone posted, have two possible locations at the moment a bodyshop, and a mates factory.

We will sort out something for the GT day.

they are very nice pads, guys.

The blue is sooooooooo soft. I used it yesterday and Tuesday to apply RMG/YCW/EX to my car and a black vectra.

Patrick's pads are very nice and great pricing too.

OK gents, I'm going to start a new thread on this so you can tell me exactly how many of each pad you're after. This way I can get more accurate prices from Excel.

BTW, isn't the Excel guy a member here?

It's making me laugh reading about some of you being nervous of the PC... As Andy said above, DON'T BE! I've been playing with my Makita 9227, and I'm coming to the conclusion that there's not much to be afraid of with a rotary either... as long as you keep your 'sensible head' on.

Wow cant beleive it, ordered my PC on Tuesday her when I finished work, well done Autopia, no chance to try it this weekend as my dad has told me not to get a transformer from screwfix as he can get on trade.

He's onto it now, should save me some money so cant complain, no real time to try it this weekend anyway luckily!
