PC - Pad confusion

Thanks for your response.

I already purchased a 6" counterweight. It seems as coastaltool also includes a white pad. I'm assuming I should tos it?

Is the velvro backing pad necessary?

If not, what type pad do I purchase to use w/o it?

Most of the pads (if not all) have a hook/loop backing, so all you'd need is a velcro backing pad. You could start out with their DM-Kit + 6" Backing Pad.

I'm still slightly confused. I am assuming that the velcro backing pad is necessary? I am also assuming that the 5 inch is a better idea than 6 for a beginner.

Since you got the PC from Coastal, you probably got the 6" counterweight and 6" backing plate (velcro). First thing I did was to switch to the 6" counterweight. The velcro backing pad is necessary to switch pads. I went with 7.5" Lake Country pads from topoftheline.

5 inch vs. 6 inch won't make a difference if you're a "beginner". Just go ahead with the 6 inch.

Hope this helps.

oh sweet! I wasn't sure if it came with the velcro backing pad!

7.5 inch pads are a good size with a 6 inch backing pad?

6" with 7.5" yes. If you use a 6" backing plate with a 6" pad the backing plate is right at the edge of the pad and the plate will destroy paint if it comes in contact with it.

Yup, they're still selling that kit at Coastal for a great price. :)

7.5 " pads work great for me with the 6" backing pad (velcro aka hook & loop thingy) and 6" counter weight. Looks like a lot of people here bought the PC from Coastal.

Kinda confusing when you're going through the purchase and beginning stages.

You've probably been here already, but in case you haven't....
