What size backing plate for the Porter Cable are most people using (5" or 6") and which is the best one (brand) to use? Also, what size pads are most people using (6.5" or 7.5")?
Got the 6" for free from Coastal Tool (Pt.# 18002)!:xyxthumbs Similar to the one that Griots puts on their PC, it's just the velcro backed contour pad with the vent holes.
For pads I'm using the 6" set from Classic Motoring. Used them for the first time last weekend and am very pleased.
I have both, but have noticed that MOST pad manufacturers are making their "6 inch" pads a little bigger than they did, say, ten years ago. I still call them "six inch" myself, but 6.5 is probably more accurate. SO..now I really only use the 6" backing plate and counterweight. Griot's 6" pads, Lake/CMA 6" pads, and 7.5" Lake pads also. 6" wool from CMA under MF bonnets when I use them.
