PC at Lowes

Went into Lowes last night to buy a PC...$109. The 7336 comes with the white pad with an integral mounting stud. The sanding disc included with the 7336 is the flat smooth surfaced pad for self adhesived sanding discs....not a velcro backed pad. So, I went to a nearby Woodworker's Supply store and bought the matching Porter Cable Velcro sanding plate for $19.95. Now I can also use the PC as a sander with adhesive sanding discs and not ruin my Velcro disc. Can't wait to play with my new toy tonight. Got some DACP, SMR for dark, Meg's beige and yellow pads, UPC and UPP....whoa baby!!:bounce

These aren't really hardware stores. They are under various names across the country..ie: Rockler, Woodworker's Supply, etc. They cater to the woodworkers among us.

I also got a 7336 from Lowe's this weekend. (weekend trip to US) I'll be ordering the velcro plate and pads from CMA though.

Very nice tool, can't wait to get to use it.

I received my PC last week. Ordered it from Coastal Tool, $119.99 plus you get a 6" velcro backing plate and the 6" counter weight "free". I felt this was the best deal going. I live close enough to them that it only took one day (CT to MA) to get it via standard UPS shipping! I ordered a yellow and white pad from CMA along with the 4" backing plate and a yellow and white 4" pad. A Blackfire PolyClay kit and some Autoglym glass polish and I'm ready. Looks like rain for the upcoming long weekend. I'll be in the garage trying out the new stuff!

Lalaland, where did you go in the U.S.? I couldn't find a Lowes anywhere nearby.

There's a Lowe's in Plattsburgh. I got the 7336 for $109 (145$ CDN). If you ever take a weekend trip down south, definately go there. It's only about 1h15 from Montreal. There are a whole bunch of stores like WalMart, K-Mart, Autozone right there aa well...we're definately missing out on a lot of stuff up here.

I spent 2 days around the Burlington area and I gotta say it was an amazing weekend. :up

Tomorrow I'm going to CMax in Laval to pick up a velcro backing plate and some Meguiar's pads.

Well, then Plattsburgh for sure. We have gone to Burlington the two trips we have made since we bought a car. Thanks.

I also purchased 7336 from lowe's but I had only one sanding paper which I dont care but they suppose to have total of 4,5 sanding paper. I exchanged but all the box has only one sanding paper. well I talked to them about this and they gave me those pads separately, but did it include all the papers? just curiuos :)

What is the difference between the 7336 and the 7424...

They are quite the same, since they use the same exact body. The difference lies in the accessories that comes with it.

The 7336 - includes a backing plate and 2 or 3 adhesive sanding pads, a wrench and a 6 in. counter weight.

The 7424 - only comes with the white polishing pad, wrench and if im not mistaken a 6 in counter weight too.

Also to add, the 7335, 7335sp and 7336sp also uses the same body as the 7336 and 7424. Again, difference would be in the accessories.

Gimme some hints 4DSC!
Sorry, since you're in Ottawa and I'm not, I can't give you any specific advice, but I'll give you my standard advice (since we don't have Lowes here  ). What I did was pick up a phone book and call up almost all the stores under two headings: Tools, and Building Materials - Retail. The latter was where I found a place for my PC, but I had to wait a few weeks since no one stocked any. :( Also try visiting or calling Home Hardware. One place told me they could order it in ($220 I think?) but I recently discovered one other store had it lying around collecting dust for under $180 :p which was a good price at the time unless you're using the current dollar exchange value. :D

I still suggest a 7336/7336sp by the way.

Good luck.

Yeah but wouldn't a 7336 be an absolute ***** to find up here?
No, why? The PC I saw lying around at Home Hardware was a 7336....

In fact, the 7336 might be easier to find than the 7424 because it's a sander which is why building supply places might sell it. The 7424 is sold as a polisher only so it might be scarcer.

The 7336 sells for $299, and the 7424 goes for $240 at Canadian Tire.

Being that I'll have to buy the pads I want seperately anyhow, I'll probably go with the 7424 the next time it goes on sale.

For you Canadians, home depot carries the the whole line of PC equipment, they dont stock the 7336 but can order it on demand.
