PC and emblems?

Would it be safe to go over my emblems with the PC, or is it better to just hand polish around that area? The emblems on my car are thin letters rather than a full logo or something...here's a pic:

Those black pearl emblems cost a lot to replace. I would tape them off so as to not take the coating off and be on the safe side. Do that area by hand.

I hand polish around emblems. I don't tape them off, but I just do go near them with a PC. Better to be safe than sorry.
