Now, the business could make extra money by offering a service that would require no extra equipment . . . for any ladys that are waiting (or guys, for that matter) for their cars to get done, the PC with a smooth pad and some Z2, applied in the appropriate location by our expert and experience operators -- free with a detail job.
We couldn't beat them off with a stick --- uh, maybe I should rephrase that.

Hi everyone - First let me say that this is a great site! As somebody new to the nuances of creating the perfect shine, this site has enough information to make my head hurt! I'm bewildered by all the acronyms, but am learning!
Second, my apologies if this has been covered. If so, just direct me to the proper thread.
As a newbie, I'm undecided between the PC7424XP and the Meguiars G110v2 as my first polisher. I think the Meguiars looks more ergonomic, so am leaning that direction. But I remember reading in another thread that the PC may have additional add-ons available to help with carpet cleaning, etc.
This will be for complete recreational use, simply to make my cars look better than my neighbors! However, my cars and the shape of their paint is all over the map:
2011 Hyundai Sonata in camel pearl - brand new paint in excellent condition. I just want to keep it that way!
2005 Town and Country van with black paint. Paint in decent condition but has lost that 'luster'.
1985 Porsche 911 Cabriolet with black plum paint. Paint in bad condition with swirls marks, etc.

To completely remove swirls and scratches, consider a professional, circular polisher such as the Makita 9227, or DeWalt 849.
This is the stock machine as it comes from Porter Cable. It has one medium density white pad which is permanently attached to a backing plate. The single white pad supplied with the polisher may be sufficient for the week-end enthusiast but its not enough flexibility for the serious detailer nor does it allow you to use any of our hook and loop backed accessory pads.

The Flex XC3401VRG has a bale-style handle which puts your hands at the 6 o'clock and 12 o'clock position which most professionals prefer. This gives you an even weight distribution between your hands, making the polisher less fatiguing when used for long periods. A six position speed control allows you to limit rpm's between 160 rpm and 480 rpm. Under the speed control, a variable speed trigger allows you to feather the oscillations per minute (OPM's) up to the maximum set by the speed dial. A very nice touch for keeping the rpm's low for applying waxes and sealants which you normally can not apply with a circular polisher.
Speed Control Note: Since the Flex XC3401VRG has a forced circular motion, every speed setting is slightly more powerful when compared to the Porter Cable 7424. If you are stepping up from a 7424, we recommend starting one speed setting lower than you would with the 7424. In other words, If you typically polish in a speed range of 3 to 4 with the 7424, start with a speed range of 2-3 with the Flex. You can always increase the speed if you need more cutting power.
This machine has a very solid "feel", like it could operate all day without stopping (which it probably does in some plants). It never feels strained or "near the edge". The Flex XC3401VRG has a bale-style handle which puts your hands at the 6 o'clock and 12 o'clock position which most professionals prefer. This gives you an even weight distribution between your hands, making the polisher less fatiguing when used for long periods. A six position speed control allows you to limit rpm's between 160 rpm and 480 rpm. Under the speed control, a variable speed trigger allows you to feather the oscillations per minute (OPM's) up to the maximum set by the speed dial. A very nice touch for keeping the rpm's low for applying waxes and sealants which you normally can not apply with a circular polisher.
Speed Control Note: Since the Flex XC3401VRG has a forced circular motion, every speed setting is slightly more powerful when compared to the Porter Cable 7424. If you are stepping up from a 7424, we recommend starting one speed setting lower than you would with the 7424. In other words, If you typically polish in a speed range of 3 to 4 with the 7424, start with a speed range of 2-3 with the Flex. You can always increase the speed if you need more cutting power.

This is the safest circular polisher I know of making it great for enthusiasts with limited machine experience.
