PC 7424XP quit working

My PC 7424XP quit working today halfway through a detail. It stumbled a couple times just like a car running out of gas and then just quit. Tried it a couple hours later and it worked but was running a bit weak. Anyone know what the problem may be? brushes? Is it something I can service myself? I'm pretty sure it's out of warranty, will check that when I can later.

I figured out that it's the speed selection switch that's causing the problem, it only works on speed 6. Anyone know if this is servicable?

I would assume it is, but is it worth fixing ? If the part is around $50, and you're going to pay someone to fix it, you might as well buy a brand new one (I've seen them on sale these days for $179)

If youre interested in a new one, my cousin works at black and decker... I can get you one for $95 plus whatever it costs to ship it to you...let me know... I may even be able to get you a new switch

I found the 7424XP at a store near me for $119, this is their regular price, not a sale. At this price, I'm going to just get a new one and keep this one as a spare. Here's the link:

I bought mine for $119 shipped from amazon.com. I just returned it (was working fine) to change to the Griot's Garage 6" DA orbital and will never look back. Lifetime warranty is a plus, but the amount of vibration feedback you get from the PCXP over the Griot's is ridiculous, the Griot's is so much more of a smooth and manageable operation. I'd highly suggest anyone thinking about switching to do it. You can get free shipping from autogeek.net if you use the promo code 'AGO'
