Detail time!
Good evening everyone.
I was doing my normal reading about detailing and stumbled upon the PC 7424 HD from Autogeek:
http://www.autogeek.net/poca74hdpl.html
This is the first that I've heard of it, has anyone tried it? For those of you that didn't go to the link this new version is the same as the regular 7424 but with 25 feet of 16 gauge cord compared to 10 feet of 18 gauge. It seems like a good idea but I'm confused.
From the link, "The standard Porter Cable 7424 comes with a 10 ft, 18 gauge power cord. The cord is specific to the power requirements of the polisher. Therefore, the 25 ft cord on the Porter Cable 7424 HD Plus is 16 gauge to maintain the optimum current for optimum performance. "
So my question is if the original cord is what the tool needs then why would I want something different?
One other one I thought was interesting "You will not lose any power by using this longer, thicker cord. Likewise, you will not overpower the machine. You’ll get the same performance you’re accustomed to and you can take it farther!"
If everything is going to be the same just with a longer cord is it worth the $20 difference?
I can see how it would be useful to have a long cord and not have to worry about an extension but what are your opinions? Has anyone burn up any tool because of an extension cord? Right now I am using the regular PC and cord with a 25 ft. 16 gauge (I think) extension which equals 35 feet and still have trouble reaching around cars. So I guess I'm wondering if the new PC is a 'must have' or actually worth it? One other is am I doing damage with my setup now?
Sorry for the long post- I was just curious about the new ideas and a few questions about cords and such. Thanks for any answers/replies.
