PBs Products

1) Due to the fact that I am extremely impatient and hate waiting for a package to be shipped to me, I wish all the detailing products I buy on-line (PB's being one of them) were available OTC.

2) I imagine this would be Steve's ultimate dream. However, it requires large scale manufacturing and distribution capabilities a/k/a a lot of money. I'm sure there was a day when Meguiar's products were sold mail order only (no internet back then). Now they're sold locally all over the world.

1) Yes, though it'd be a while before getting here. If we ever relocate and put a retail section in, we'll carry PBs.
2) b/w logos on an unknown product for 2x-3x the cost of the cheap OTC products? Probably Steve's current approach is best.

1) I'm not sure. There's good points and not so good points for that.

2) I would imagine that would be up to Steve, but for some reason I don't seem to think that's his goal.

1)I seem to recall Steve mentioning the reason his stuff isn't OTC is that many (if not all) of the major chains require a "line of credit" from the vendor. This may be anywhere from 30 days to 90. This means the vendor must put up the product to supply X number of stores for possibly 3 months, all without any return on investment. (They get no money, but likely had to pay up front for the products, either in actual cost of materials if they mfg. the items or paying the mfg for the products made for the chain.) If the chain has even only 100 stores, think of the cost to supply 100 stores with at least a case of each item in PBW. Then think how much more it would cost to keep the stores supplied if the items sold well. (Still no money coming in for up to 90 days, but you are still required to keep supplying the product.)
2) This is currently available to people that live around AutoGeek, DC's store, etc. :D

Have had the opportunity and turned it down..I'd rather strive to have independant distributors located in every state (maybe a few in larger states)
and have more personal interaction between the sellers and customers.
Just selling a product versus have someone be able to explain the right product for each application and how to use it is much more important.:howdy

Steve -

This may be asking for too much info, but what's involved in being a distributor? Just curious, and I understand if you don't want to answer in such a public arena.

Jared it takes a few things..

1) knowlege of our products and their usage
2) a desire to be self employed and have sales ability
2a) a business plan
2b) a tax ID #
2c) a web site (optional)
2d) a phone :)
3) a place to pack and ship packages or a big trunk or truck;)
4) start-up capital to stock product

I hate to say this but I think pbs reputation would crumble with the products becoming otc. The reason i say that is there are alot of idiots out there who would end up doing somthing stupid. No one on dc says anything bad becasue we all know hoiw to use the products and love them yes folks i love them 2. I think pbs right now is seen as the best and that part of the alure of orderign it and waiting. I honsetly think steve has an awsome marketing plan right now, its more deserable as a botique products over and Otc. These are just my 2 cents. And regarldess of were i find pbs ill be ordering it for a long time

Although not required, it does also help to have a trained Killer Ninja Attack Guard Dog and Chief Packing Assistant.

shoes and teeth are required...and no dueling banjo players:bow

beercan31 Poorboy's is not a bad choice but as far as I know Pb's is not available over the counter yet. .
I thought i would ask the question after reading this in another thread. I'm not too familiar with the business part. I know awhile ago i PM'ed Steve to ask what it takes to be a distribuitor of PBs. He gave me the exact answer he posted here today.

So i was thinking and steve cant make pbs a otc product, I already have enough to last me a while, it was otc I would never stop buying, I would be bankrupt. The only reason i dont have more is becasue i have to order it online and i dont want to max my credit card. So steve even if you want to you cant sorry. :D

Steve READ MY AVATAR LOGO.

Don’t shop at Wal-Mart.

There is a real reason for this, I have never been to a Wal-Mart and I dont think there are any near where I live. I'm sure you can figure out why I say thins when you are being questioned about becoming an "over the counter" company.

Day 1 profit 52% Independent and happy little boutique product.

Meet the Wal-Mart evil machine. We will buy all of the chemicals you can produce for exclusive distribution rights for 180 days. Sound good, sign here.

Day 7 profit 30% but we will sell 100% of your stock
Day 30 profit 15% but we will sell all of your stock
Day 60 profit 1% you are lucky to have a retailer like us. Your product needs to be manufactured by our subsidiary in Hong Kong if you wish to stay in business. Sign here please.
Day 181 profit 0%. Wal-Mart Hong Kong subsidiary manufacturing your product at 60% of original potency for 10% of original cost including shipping to the US. Your plant and distribution center are closed because you are only collecting a small "royalty" check and cant pay your labor crew or scientists.

All the stories you have heard are true. Wal-Mart steals business from a guy like Steve. They infiltrate your business. Install their own inventory and order system in your manufacturing or distribution plant. Then put the squeeze on you.

Steve - You should consider licensing Poorboy's somehow. It is a great product line.

*- all percentages are fictional, just for demonstration purposes.

90 days would be GREAT! Then I could actually spend some of the money I made. I deal with global banks that take over 180 days to pay my company! I go insane. If I complain to Dunn & Bradstreet, I am blacklisted on the street and I most likely lose the account. So I deal with it.

yes it is a 180 day billing cycle...if you get paid on time , there are no holidays , and the person who autorizes payment is not on vacation:rolleyes:
