PB polishes

am about to use PBs 2.5 and or 2.0,1.0 for the first time. awhile back on a posting it was mentioned that your pad SHOULD NOT be pre moistened with a fine water spray; that the PB polishes worked better without it. i believe that post went back about 2 years as does my original purchase of the polishes. just never got around to using them with all the other stuff i've been testing hahah.

anybody a regular user of PBs ? does this prohibition still hold ?

comments/suggestions ?

thanks

With PB's SSRs, you only prime the pad with product (whatever polish you are using). Start with the least aggressive and work your way up. You may find that you don't need to go to the 2.5. If you do, after the 2.5, you can go to the 1.0. No need for the 2.0 in between.

thanks for the pad prep answer. also, i knew about the extreme (?) dusting potential of PB polishes but was hoping that had been corrected. i guess it hasn't, huh? like i said, bought the stuff, want to at least try it out. i have used megs with good results but that to will eventually dust. optimum always seemed to have an incredible amout of work time, got the results i wanted, and i never got it to dust. then there was that "problem" with a batch of optimum, it being "clumpy". i knew one of the creators of optimum and he assured me that the lumping was an issue at the time and it was being corrected , and he sent me a botle of the new stuff. yet to put it to the task but like i said , have the PB ssrs and want to use them before they go sterile.

oh...by the way... a recent post here had a user finding an "oily residue" left on the finish after polishing. any idea what happened here ?

The dusting is pretty much user error, or the user not finding the right techniques for the polish at hand. When used properly, the SSRs are one of the best line of polishes used by PC or UDM in terms of ease of use (on and off) and results. As to the oily residue, you've got me ... the only thing that comes to mind is that the product wasn't shaken enough or not shaken regularly (once a month). All products require different techniques and here is what I have found works best with SSR2.5, which also applies to the other two as well.

-Always use a polishing pad (or orange light cut ... keep in mind it will dry out the product faster) with SSR2.5 (it'll remove a ton of swirls, if not do another pass or bump up to another product)

-DO NOT PRIME WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE PRODUCT ITSELF (very crucial)

-Apply a thin bead of product around the pad for each section of the car or several dots around the pad.

-Spread it at whatever speed you want, work it in at Speed 6.... don't be afraid of speed 6.

-Work it in until very clear (may take a few minutes... see pics in link below)

-If the product begins to build up on the pad, brush off with stiff brush or wipe off excess polish with a terry towel

-Go to finer polish (if needed- with the polishing pad you most likely don't NEED to follow up but it wouldn't hurt).

-Do not use a new pad that hasn't been washed- Pads come from the factory with small foam particles left in the pad that look like product dust.

Also, member blkyukon has great pictures of SSR2.5 breaking down on his site: Polish Break Down Stages - Poorboys SSR2.5

And here is a 50/50 shot after SSR2.5 and a white polishing pad with a PC ... after 2 alcohol wipedowns:
