PB EX-P followed by Souveran without fully curing?

Hi guys,

I'll detail a red C6 Corvette this weekend and only have 8 hours for a full job. I want durability but also want the ultimate look of the Souveran. Is there any benefit of topping 1 layer of EX-P with 1 layer of Souveran after a curing period of, let's say, 1 hour? Or if I'll fully eliminate the layer of EX-P?

What's about KSG? I guess it's even worse? I unfortunately don't have Jetseal sealant and it's OSS locally so no luck.

Thank you.

Let the ex-p cure as long as possible, then use the souveran. The warmer it is the quicker it should cure (ex with high humidity)

Ksg has staying power but has a very very sterile look. So the souverand won't be at it's best.

Jet seal has a nice look, but doesn't last at all. And no matter what they say, it still needs to cure like any other sealant.

IMHO go with your option 1. EX-P, then souveran.

If as long as possible means 1 hour @ ~80F, am I losing my time and products?

Call Steve at PB.

He'll tell you straight, and this way you have it from the guru himself.

I can also tell you that one of the board members (i believe subie) did similar process at the detail weekend. But using Natty's Red. He said it looked great and it didn't have bad effects. Ck the detail weeknd pics thread or the detail weend thread. You'll find it there.

I agree, Steve is going to be the best source. My opinion is skip the EX-P and go straight to Souveran if you are that time constrained, that is assuming you are seeking the durability of the sealant. Why not do the hood or roof with the EX-P and then you would be able to have a test bed.

Found it.

On my car the S4

PB SSR 2 ( new and improved ) with a polishing pad.
PB Ex-P and then Nattys Red although I should have waited but I wanted to try it out.

A couple of i-phone pics.

Also I got my friend hooked, he went home with some quality PB product.

i would do two coats of EX-P and skip the Souveran ... the paint on the Vette will do the shining and your customer will then get durability ... the Souveran may look good intially but what about a month or so down the line  what will the customer say then?

Or you could do that :D

In a month or so, I would hope that they would say, "hey, can you do my car again?":D

It's very confusing because I received many different answers:

1) Put 2 layers of Souveran and skip EX-P, it'll give more shine and some durability
2) Put 2 layers of EX-P and skip Souveran, it'll pretty much look the same
3) As long as you wait 1 or 2 hours to let EX-P cure, you can layer with Souveran
4) No go, you have to let EX-P cure at least 12 hours

:yikes:

1) I don't know about "more shine", but two "layers" is a sure way to get complete coverage. I can't speak to the durability, but assuming it is on par with similar products I would guesstimate 30-60 days of durability based on conditions.
2) Can't give a comparison on the looks, but my "guess" would be there will be a difference in appearance since one is a carnauba and EX-P a sealant. Perhaps EX would be closer, appearance wise.
3/4) I'm guessing more than two, but a whole lot less than 12 during the heat of Summer.

Steve, have you or a customer ever tested lower curing times with EX-P in comparison with other panels? I'm surely not the first one trying to do this.

If you tell me it's completely pointless, I'll stick to only EX-P or only Souveran. On the other hand, if there's a benefit (50% efficiency? 75% efficiency?), I'll give it a try because there's nothing like the good old EX-P + 'nauba combo.

I vote 2 coats of EX-P for durability reasons. Souveran only lasts a couple of weeks in the summer if it's out in the sun. If you have some PB BH throw a coat on before the sealant that would definitely help if you are concerned about depth. That's my two cents.:)

I'm not steve, but remember Subies post that I added earlier in the thread. If I remember correctly he let it cure less than an hour as time was getting short. (but it may have been longer of shorter, but i believe it was right around an hour)
