Paul Dalton Rotary Video......

It's not. AFAIK (might be wrong) it's the heaviest of the 3 popular rotaries (Hitachi, Makita, Dewalt). Running the Makita one hand at the lowest speed on a flat panel isn't too tough, or dangerous; but there is an element of risk. I've done it a few times on SUV roofs, but try not to.

FWIW, the Makita is a lot lighter than the Dewalt. I haven't used a Hitachi, but I believe it's of a similar weight to the Makita.

I tell ya what, threads do go downhill quick around here when Justin3015 is involved.

Anyway, the video sparks my interest to move from a vector rotary (heaviest sombitch in the world) to the Makita or other. Damn you justin, makin me spend another $250.

It's quite interesting to see how he speeds up and slows down the machine

he's using the same machine I do as well.

I do use one hand method on wide cars (roofs only) but because my left hand is so worn out from eight to twelve hours of buffing a badly neglected car

I'll say one thing - he ain't the worlds best car washer. IMO his method stinks

Any video I can watch I learn from - even a bad one.

it reminds me what not to do.

I'll start doing my own shortly and post up the link for you all to critique.

The washer jets definately need to be taped and also some car hoods with that don't have any moulding at the end. Over the years I have seen people take a chunk out of that panel

I was much more impressed with Mike Pennington's ability. The thing that I noticed is how the backing plate is angled into the body. This can cause more pressure on the leading edge of travel which is a cause of the hologramming.

Man, some of your attitudes really stink. Are you this way in non-forum life?

I hope not.

44 comments..........814 views..........and 3-4 that show up in all of my posts trying to start something.

Kind of embarrassing.......

I don't think most people are bashing him (I haven't followed the saga so I don't know). They are just pointing out that its not overly good technqiue and can lead to problems with begineers. Again, I'm new to the saga, so maybe I don't have the underlying stories.

Eitherways Justin, you do great work and I enjoy reading your posts.

I think Pauls Marketing department have crisis!! I think in away he has become a victim of his own sucess in some senses. There are all sorts of "fake" write ups out there of him detailing a jacket (someone wearing a mask of him!) etc.

I think some people consider this also to be quiet a humble hobby of enthusiasts, with many amazing "over hauled" details. Which in honesty, i dont think many of his are, there often big money cars with big money wax with a keen eye for detail.

I think there is always going to be some stick Justin, i think more people probably like then hate. :up

In no way did this video say it was educational for beginners. If Anthony or someone else well respected had done this same video, nobody would be bashing him as having incorrect technique. Nobody. But because this guy is popular and not here to defend himself, people jump all over him.

Yeah........

I've talked with 10 pro detailers and various bodyshop managers. None ever recommend angling a pad while using a rotary but some post and practice this.

Why can't some take this video as for what it was meant for............just to watch!!!

Guys with talent no matter what they do, always make it look easy......

I enjoyed the video. He gets right on top of his work and locks in on what he is doing.

I'd like to see some more.....:xyxthumbs

Nice video and yes he's a great detailer.

I had tried with one hand on a flat surface with a finish pad w/o any problem. I didnt get any hop or skip.

I can't imagine try to do a vertical panel with one hand with a cutting pad:bolt

Let see more video :)

I'm not sure this is equal to "hate" when I and others express a concern for how beginners might be wrongly impressed upon that this is how rotary can be done.

As I stated I enjoy the videos, it's a fun watch and those who have experience know this but the other side of the coin is a rookie, who is impressed with Pauls talents, seeks to copy him and in a flash rips off a Mercedes hood ornament which then plants itself in the nearest wall! (Hey I've seen it happen)

So I take it for what it is...a short entertaining clip of a detailer....my concern is for those who are just learning and it is my opinion. The politically correct atmosphere lately on any and all topics has made "opinions" an endangered species.

Anthony, you should make more videos :)

Well thanks for the encouragement and in fact we are doing this but not for rotary at the moment. We'll do a tutorial on OptiSeal first, then No Rinse and then a How-To for rotary and Cyclo.
