Actually, his agent has posted here under the name Miracle Agent. IIRC Paul has posted here once or twice himself but I don't remember the userid. More than anything, I imagine the videos were posted simply because Paul has become something of an Internet legend in his own right.
 
Why does every one of his threads turn into a "this guy sucks" thread." This guy is an amazing detailer and works on wonderful cars. Like many do here. Is he more talented? maybe, maybe not...But to criticize his work, everytime one of his vids pops up becomes redundant.
 
It doesn't seem like he's using any polish. Usually if I am doing a good for instance I lay down a 6 in. line per quarter of the hood. Depending on the polish. Maybe I am using to much?

Well its hard to tell because of the quality of the video how much polish he is using. Also depends on what polish etc. Using certain amount of polish also is determined by which polish is being used. Examples: it seems it requires a lot less polish on the pad when using the Optimum line then say the Menzerna line from my experience.

No I am NOT. I just admire his work and marketing. I would actually like him to be my PR/Marketing rep.........others would probably benefit from him too if not so narrow minded.



Why would you ask this?



He does not work for AG and is about a bazillion miles away.

I just don't get you guys that criticize.......you're not critiquing when you ask and make the comments that you are. I simply posted this for pleasure.......not personal gain or you you haters to come in and bash him or me.



Just tell me why you are? Give me one valid freaking reason?
 
I dunno, I wasn't criticizing. I was saying the video doesn't show much. I'd much rather see him doing some correction rather than throwing a rotary around while doing some finishing polishing. FWIW, I've always said I think Paul Dalton is a very good detailer, I just don't get the point of this video.

To be honest, I think you are a great detailer and would love to see a pointless video of you buffing with a rotary.



It would simply be NEAT! As was the intent of this video.
 
Wow, I really want to know what pad and backing plate he's using, that thing is floating across the surface, very, very nice. That Makita looks pretty light too, hmmmm.
 
I am just wondering what polish did he used in the 2nd video, he seems to worked pretty long on the car. Does you guys work so long as well with a rotary ?

For clarification: I'm not jealous in any way at all, but I do envy him cleaning all those high end vehicles. I'm not saying that he sucks either. This post has the potential to glamorize Paul and glorify the way he incorrectly uses a rotary. I can't speak on anything other than the way he's using his tools. I'm afraid that people will see this video and think that's the proper way to use a rotary and end up damaging their vehicle. You can't just post something as invalid as this(IMHO) and expect for everyone (especially professionals) to agree or admire it without more explanation. I'm not trying to be disrespectful to Paul or Justin, I'm just trying to play devil's advocate on the side of correctness in a professional way. What was the storyline of Paul sending you this video? Was it sent in an informative way, or just to showboat among friends? Something meant to be harmless, could encite a internet riot if people don't have more clarification on the intent of this thread.

well said. i completely see what you are saying and agree that, if taken out of context, someone beginning with a rotary could do serious damage trying to repeat what he is doing. my original comments were speaking toward the general attitude that the dalton threads bring out...kind of a "zaino effect" if i may describe it that way. i guess it just comes with the territory around here. :)

Why not? Isn't that what idolatry is all about? We sure swallow it hook line and sinker no questions asked when it comes from our politicians, why do we have to engage our brains when it comes to something with much lesser impact on society like paint polishing is?

I can buff with one hand and do so many times but mainly to shake out my stabalizing hand as it goes numb after awhile. After 18 years of using a rotary, Cyclo and hand waxing/polishing my fingers and wrist go numb and tingle so I release the handle for a short time. It's not something I think of doing either.....I just kinda do it automatically now every few minutes of buffing on flat surfaces. Not something I would want a beginner doing.



I can also use a Cyclo in one hand and a rotary in the other hand at the same time....heck I can use two high speeds at the same time...big deal though, it's for show and I wouldn't do that on a customers car. In fact I had a video up of me running a Cyclo and a rotary at the same time but I removed them thinking someone would attempt that on a car and do some serious damage.



So for a video its cool to watch but for beginners learn proper technique and how to SAFELY operate the machine. Running a buffer smoothly is not difficult....finishing a car out without any damage is the challenge.

It's not. AFAIK (might be wrong) it's the heaviest of the 3 popular rotaries (Hitachi, Makita, Dewalt). Running the Makita one hand at the lowest speed on a flat panel isn't too tough, or dangerous; but there is an element of risk. I've done it a few times on SUV roofs, but try not to.
