PakShak releases ultra edgeless towel!

I think the best like Pak and AutoGeek find the better plants and work on the design/quality collaboratively.

That's pretty wishful thinking, IMO. Sure, they may come from the better plants, whatever that really means/is worth, but "collaborating" is a pretty generous term for picking out the features a particular vendor wants, which amounts mostly to color and edging. That's kind of like saying you had a hand in the design of your Lexus because you picked out the colors and option packages. If you want to believe the hype, fine, that doesn't mean the rest of us have to. Merriam Webster doesn't give the etymology of "hype", but I imagine the root is "hyperbole: extravagant exaggeration".

I'm negative on Megs since I bought a bunch of their latest towels like the Supreme Shine and they are horrible quality. My Target towels are better.

We're not talking about the current Meg's Chinese towels that are sold by the retail chains. We're talking about the Ultimate Wipe which was made in Korea and primarily sold through boutique distributors or direct from Meguiar's.

Hmmm...I'm not so sure. I will let Ranney speak for himself but as a great collector of quality MF all I can say is that Pak and AutoGeek must be doing something right as their stuff is head and shoulders above the rest in my experience.

I also have had an Ultimate Wipe which I bought from our local AutoColor. I was not impressed. I will share my comments on the Pak edgeless.

These look exactly like the "Perfect Shine Edgeless Microfiber Towels" available from CarCareSmart.com

http://www.carcaresmart.com/page/C/PROD/_MMP/MT1600500

I've got 6 or so of the above towels and they work AWESOME (these are my premium microfibers I Guess). I've also got another 10 of the Zuma Towels from Excel, and initially anyway they actually feel plusher. I've got lots of other towels, but these are my towels I'll use on paint anyway.

mcnab,

I would caution you to keep in mind that many towels in microfiber look the same based on weave and other things like color, but you won't know the quality until you feel the softness of the towel, use it, and use it again after laundering it. A good quality towel in my experience will do well in all these circumstances.

The ones I posted above have been holding up VERY well to any abuse I could throw at them. At 9 bux a pop I'd hope so :/ I wanted something that would be VERY plush on my own vehicle (black) and wouldn't leave even the slightlest detectable marring.

I'll give the Zuma towels a go and see how they hold up after awhile. I've heard good things about the Excel towels tho, so Im curious to see how they hold up. There's definitly a HUGE difference in quality from the OTC MF towels I use on interiors, wheels, etc and the ones I use on my paint.

you have not had a superb towel to you have a Towel by DFT..Leo's towel is by far the very best I have..100% cotton microfiber..and silky ...

Made in the U.S.A.

Al

I've used the DF Towel and was not impressed at all. I now have 4 of them collecting dust, and they are still stiff after a dozen washings. I prefer microfiber much more.

There are great value towels out there but I like spending a couple of dollars more to get the best.

Can you really say that the Cobra Super-Plush and whichever Pak towel is equivalent to that are any different from each other or the MFT Elite or the Poorboy's DMT or the CG Elite Ultra-Plush etc. etc. except for the edging and the color?

Bear in mind that there were two versions of the Ultimate Wipe, the original with the black edging (which I have never experienced) and the later edgeless version.

Sure, take the Miracle Towel from CMA for instance, you can see how extra dense the fibers are. Some towels are softer or noticeably better finished. The UltraSoft Paks are softer than any towel I have and they are that way right out of the box.

Fiber density, build quality, softness, edging quality...lots of factors.

There is a lot of variation in MF, you just have to know where to look and feel. :)

I do like the Poorboys DMT but the Pak UltraPlush is softer to me.

So you've tried all of the towels mentioned Lee? I've found no difference other than edging and color. Softer? Only in your imagination unless they're sending you something different than what they send me.

i have some pakshak ultra-plush mf's, cobras, etc.. and they are no better than the viking ones i have, and yes... i've compared them side to side.

The Miracle Towel is no more, replaced by the Magic Towel. Oddly, that occurred at about the same time the MFT Elite (which looked an awful lot like the Miracle Towel) changed to look...well, like the Magic Towel.

I'm certainly not denying there are plenty of crap towels out there, and that even if you buy the same (named) towel from the same place at different times they can be different (as previously mentioned I loved the original Poorboy's Work Towels for glass, then he changed them and they are way too soft now for that).

I have sampled plenty of expensive towels (in the $6-7 range), and found them to be identical to certain $4 towels that can be had for even less in quantity.

Same here - I have great plush towels that I cannot tell the difference when used and in their durability. ONLY in price, so, the most expensive is NOT always the best - this goes for everything in life fyi.

Magic Towel is what I have been using-the density/construction improved when they changed names. The Elite does not have as much fiber density.

Hey if you guys want to use something different that's fine with me. I like bargains too but in many cases you do get what you pay for in my experience. I have hundreds of these towels and there is a wide variety of quality.

This may be true in some cases but not in most based on my experience. I have tried everything and I have not found a $4 towel to match the performance of an UltraSmooth, UltraPlus, or UltraSoft towel. Sometimes these towels can be gotten at a nice discount from Pak. The DMT is a nice towel but it costs as much as PakShak. I also like Nick's Monster Fluffy towel.

I think the best strategy is to use good boutique towels for removal (edgeless), final buff (ultraplush, monster), QD (ultrasmooth or ultrasoft) and use Costco or Sam's for the rest.

it's funny... i just met up with a fellow autopian, and had both the cobra ultra-plush and (old blue drying towel) viking mf's on hand and let him feel both. guess which one was softer in his hands... the viking. i'm not denying that boutique ones are bad, i'm just proving that you can buy otc (just like anything else these days) products that rival or are just as nice the boutique or more expensive ones...

Viking sent a box of their stuff and its good but it does not match PakShak quality. I like their plsuh towel but it is no less money than Pak at a discount, sometimes more.

Spend a few more cents and get the good stuff. :)

your entitled to your opinion. actually a while back, i recieved a purple pakshak ultra-plush towel, and it did not impress me (not bashing pakshak at all). i still found the viking to be just as good if not better...
