painting help

There are numerous references to removing paint sealant (Klasse, Zaino, etc.) in past threads and the best way seems to be a 50/50 mixture of water and alcohol in a spray bottle. My only question is, should I just spray it on and wipe it off? Or do I have to rub it in with a foam/terry applicator before wiping it off?

Thanks.

hey buddy...check this out....isee your post ...so i go back in the archives to see what i find...because ...in all honesty....if i had to answer your question on a test...yeah i would say...ISA...boom...spray bottle...100%...50/50mix ...and id be right....but i didnt remember anybody actually posting about./..........yeah today i took all the Z off my car.....i did remember someone going over to Klasse...but then you just AIO and your on your way...you dont need the ISA.....

rambling sorry,,,,

anyway...while searching i saw these exchanges between Ron and DK....where Ron is saying ...i mean emphatically that ISA will not...and cannot remove Z if its been applied correctly....WOW!!!now i know this cannot be totally true cause i know DK has used ISA to get his Z off....but then Ron shoots back with "no DK"...your just feeling the contaminants that you wiped off of the top layer of Z...not that the Z is off...its still there.........really interesting dood...i wish he was still around......hope DK checks in ....he da man and ill know he'll remember that thread hopefully...man....and it seemed like such a no brainer right???:p

PS...the bottom line is that sal says it gets it off so...it should...but good question dood....i would also wonder....why couldnt you just wash you car with ISA....with a mitt and all(besides the fact that it would get on the mitt)....sounds easier than spray bottle........heres the thread......

IPA=rubbing alcohol

It is just rubbing alcohol you can buy in a 70% form at any drug store or grocery store.

It will not do much for removal once a polymer sealant has cured.

The only sure way to break it off is to first soak with a safety solvent then follow up wash with a pH solution of 11 to 12.

Our safety solvent is New Car Prep(combustible, not flammable, no clorinated solvent components) and the wash solution would be the product "A" used in the OEM ferrous metal/acid rain neutralization/IFO removal sytem that is featured in the Technical Bulletins on our site.

Really don't know what others that would do it without running the risk of damage, but sure there is something out there.

Others make safety solvents , just be sure no clorinated such as xylene, toulene, etc are in product.(damages trim, may have an affect on the paint resin system and are carcenigenic)

Sorry, but---

One of two things will make you believe that.

The first is the IPA has cleaned the sealant of surface contaminates or,second, the sealant you are cleaning is lacking in any real resin strength, is of inferior quality.

I know that Sal uses good, quality resins and IPA is not going to break the molecular chain of his product when it was applied according to his instructions.

Wow, if ISA can't remove it, then it's hard to believe that anything could.

Flones, so just spray it on and then wipe it off? No need to rub it into the paint or anything?

remeber i have never done it.......but...remember when Ron got everybody going with the "QD doesnt remove bird crap" thread...that u have to use ISA....then everybody posted .........that..... well...if you do that it will take the Z off too.......then youll have to reapply the Z in that area....better off waiting til DK or the likes answers this thread....they have actually done it...im just Floni........;) :p but im sure thats how its done....but i wonder why you just couldnt wash your whole car with ISA(50/50 or full strength)...with a mitt and all...instead of wiping....i mean its not hard....just like QDing but with ISA....but i was wondering......wouldnt it be more thorough and easier to like do a carwash...with ISA....or maybe that is too much for the paint to handle or sumthin.................

but im really interested as to whatever happened with that "arguement/disagreement" as to if ISA really does it???

FLONI, then I'd have to fill up a bucket almost half-way with alcohol. That's a lot of alcohol! :)

But hey, thanks for going through the archives for me! I think I'll just spray my car right after a wash, let it sit for a few secs and wipe it off. I don't think it's necessary to rub it into your paint with foam.

Thanks again Floni.

The references I've seen to this technique recommend letting it sit for about a minute. So walk around the car and spray it on generously, let sit and then ...do whatever you're going to do.

FLONI

 You stripped your car???

Put...no dood...dont even joke bout that........im just answering Inter.....all that Z is staying til next spring.........funny though...i know u go thru the archives as much as i love to.....and you probably noticed too....that ther really isnt a thread where someone said.......ok,,,,,,,,,,,,i took it all off today(Z/K)......maybe cause Zaino really took off last Spring so...no one had to take it all off to much yet......i knoe DK did...but i couldnt find too much else where people listed there exact steps and all.........INTER...you should make a seperate thread and list all your steps dood...that would be a classic post if you really got into all the details and all....i know i would be reading it next Spring...:D

Found your first post! LOL

FLONI, You might want to turn the caps lock off for future messages. In general, all-caps is used to indicate "shouting" in Usenet and on forums like this one. Not a flame, just FYI . . .</blockquote>

:p that was the habit i had beofre the ..........i cant type for crap...and as you see...forget punctuation...so i used to cap everything...............see how these guys attacked me right from the beginning...........:p ;)...................ahaha!!!i looked ...it was Tortoise....you slow running thing you...Guess......off with his head.....:bounce ....actually...he gave me a great answer on xenit...then told me at the end about the caps....he was nice about it:up

How bout using a cleaner like Pinnacle or 3M SMR on it. That will take it off and leave your paint well prepped too. Chances are your gonna want to prep your paint somehow before applying another sealant. AIO will remove it as well. I personnaly like Meguiars #9 for swirl mark removal. It seems about as abrasive as SMR and seems to be easier to work with.

Give SAL a call, I am sure he knows more about his products than RON K. Sounds like ron is just trying to promote his ABC system.

I don't know about that DK. It's kind of unfair to give him this rap now that he's gone. He really didn't strike too much of a sales nerve with me. He often, if not always, mentioned other products that were not affiliated with his company as possible "remedies" for various detailing issues. So lets not go there. At any rate, I would tend to think that IA would strip the Zaino. I wouldn't think that you would need a 50/50 solution to do this. I simply used 2-3 bottles per 5 gallon bucket. I washed my car twice and got the results I wanted. However, I would tend to prefer using something such as Pinnacle PCL. I would have used it if I had had some. Laters

I know that Ron is now gone, but I do not like the unfairness towards him just because he left. Notice how he usually doesn't promote products in every post unless if he feels its a rip-off... or there aren't many products like that on the market already.

As with the question, I recommend using a dedicated product such as P21S or Pinnacle Cleansing Lotion.

Good luck!

Totally agree BW! One thing is for sure, Ron K. knows his stuff. He was a true assett to the forum as he knew quite a bit of insider stuff. No one else here has the knowledge or is privied to the info that he has access to. In addition, I found him to be quite objective. I would say that he rarely if ever promoted anything. Do you remember how we would all get somewhat annoyed when he would recommend a "good leather cleaner" or a "good vinyl cleaner" and then when he was questioned to name a few, he wouldn't. I kind of liked that. So let's not start a smear campaign now. Laters

I painted me emblems blue and it looked great till i washed the car. They both peeled off a bit so i thought if i taped off the area and re did it, it would turn out good again. (Only reason i taped is because the stuff i used to put them back i dunno how to get off.) so i tape the front and it comes out ok but when i remove the tape pain spray got on to the the front bumper (the black part). Is there anything i can use to tape it off or should i just wait till i get innercooler and try black spraying it? Or if someone has a better idea please tell me because i want to clean this up soon as possible.
