Painted calipers, cleaned wheel wells.

Picked up the Dupli-Color caliper paint kit (red) at my work and decided to give it a shot. Gotta give a huge shout out to my cousin for coming and doing this all.

Before we go into the painting process lets take a look at the nasty wheels.

Ill get some daytime pics for tomorrow.

I have to change my front brakes in the morning, should have thought about picking up caliper paint too. Oh well, the design of my factory wheels really aren't best for showing off red calipers anyway.

Looks great on your car. How much time did you spend painting the calipers?

Nice job :2thumbs:

I bought the same kit last year, and just never had time to do it. I plan on painting mine soon too, I also plan on cleaning my rims inside and out and sealing them up.

Did you experience any lines when using the brush? My friend is convinced I'll get lines, and suggests using a spray, which I really don't like.

No, but the brush puts this stuff on REAL thin. I suggest going to a paint store and picking up some nice quality brushes. I had a few lying around and it makes a world of difference. The brush the kit comes with is complete junk.

I've been contemplating whether I should paint my calipers or not. I'm in Houston and the humidity/heat is very high. I don't have access to a garage where cooler conditions can be kept. Once I find a garage I can use, maybe I'll do it.

I have a Black Accord Coupe. I'm leaning towards red as well, but I'm also thinking about black. Not sure how that would look though.

Scott,

I spent about 2 1/2 hours just painting the back calipers. This includes all the prep, taping them off, letting them dry, and applying a second coat. I found "baking" the paint in with a halogen light really dried them quickly, and well.

The fronts are a lot bigger than the rear's so I suspect its going to take around 3 1/2 hours for the fronts.

Looks good, I recently painted my calibers black, I recommend putting a couple of coats of gloss on in order to prevent brake dust buildup and to up the shine

I used that kit two weeks ago to paint my calipers black. I did the same thing evenflo suggested and used a higher quality brush that I had laying around. It took less then one hour to paint about 2 1/2 coats (I spent four times as long prepping the brakes and cleaning/sealing my wheels). By the time I made it around the car to hit the four calipers they were dry enough to hit with another coat. The 1/2 coat was just a touch up after putting the spring clips back on. I took the risk and painted them without masking them first and everything turned out all right. Although I could see brush marks while first applying the paint, they disappeared pretty quickly.

I did the same thing on my GTP but halfassed the taping - and lemme tell ya, yours looks 10 times better than mine. Prep is really everything when painting. Painting a few coats of clear on really helps too.
