Paint so shiny = easy swirls?

Guy down the road sees me detailing cars in my driveway a lot. Asked me what I used and I gave him the rundown - PC, pads, polishes, last step products, etc... He buys all of that, stops up with his truck and shows me his paint.



He has handpolished the black paint using OTC stuff to a point to where you can't lightly drag a towel or even touch the paint with your finger - and not leave a mark.



When I first became a waxaholic, I did the same thing on a black car. I used 30 counts of Zymol until you couldn't pull a very soft cotton towel across the paint without leaving very visible marks. Sold the car before I could fix it.



So what do I do to reduce the finnickiness of this paint for him? I don't have that problem with any of my cars - course I don't own a black one right now...

sounds like the nature of the paint's hardness (and color making it more noticable)...not something you can change. soft paint will be marred easier than "regular" or hard paint. that's just the nature of the beast. this isn't something that you cause by detailing it too much.

If a car is perfect, then of course any marring becomes more noticable. If you can rub a car to perfection by hand, then the paint must be soft to begin with.
