Paint Protection under a Roof Rack

Hi all,

I came across this site and have been trying to learn as much as I can for the past few days. I'm hoping someone here can help me.

I usually have a Yakima roof rack on my car to support my hobby. I take off the rack in the winter, but now that the weather is nice, I'm getting ready to put it back on.

What would you recommend I put on the roof rails of the car to protect the paint from the rubber feet of the roof rack? Just clean and wax it, or is there some product that will put on a more durable layer of protection so the feet won't mar the paint?

Thanks for your help. Here is a pic of my car as it usually looks in nice weather:

Good question. I have not had a problem with the rubber feet of the rack scratching the paint with just wax for protection but I did have the feet of the fairing scratch the roof in spite of using the rubber pads they give you to stick under them.

I have racks year-round as I'm in Virginia. My paint is already permanently marred, but you might want to look into some kind of "invisble bra" material where your racks contact the roof.

PM me for contacts or pics.
